Babyface is known for being extra smooth, scoring some of our favorite films (Waiting to Exhale, 1995) and making history. Let’s admit, if you were born in the late 70’s to mid 80’s you grew up listening to Babyface via your parents. Now that we are all adults we can fully understand the true artistry of Mr. Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. In modern terms, this guy had a lot of swag and we have the pictures to prove it, just in case you forgot.

See, you have singers, then you have artists, Babyface is an artist. He has been blessed by the music gods and has the power to turn words into platinum and gold selling records. He has written over 20 No. 1 R&B hits through out his career. He is also one of the founding fathers of the New Jack Swing sound and the co-founder of La Face Records. We all know that company is responsible for acts such as TLC and Toni Braxton.

Some of the songs that Babyface has written include “I’ll Make Love to You” by Boyz II Men and “Breath Again” by Toni Braxton. He broke it down to the Singersroom how those songs were conceived.

Boyz II Men –” I’ll Make Love To You”

“I’ll Make Love To You” was kind of the follow up to “End Of The Road.” I think I wrote it in an apartment here in LA. Once I finished it, the hard part is like when you do one big song like “End Of The Road,” it’s tough to try to out do it but it was something that was in that line. When I first submitted it, I think the guys liked it but then at one point the record was voted off there album. At the last minute they voted it back in again.

Toni Braxton – “Breathe Again”

“Breathe Again” was written in Atlanta Georgia inside a studio with Coco (SWV). It was at LA [Reid’s] house, we had a studio we built there in the guest house. We were trying to come up with more songs for her record. It was kind of one of those songs that I kind of sat down and started playing these cords and the words and melodies just kind of floated out. It was really written quickly; probably a couple of hours.
