Biopic Madness: 10 Awesome Whitney Houston And Bobby Brown Flicks

July 16, 2014  |

In July of 1992, a 28-year-old Whitney Houston wed a 23-year-old Bobby Brown. In March of 1993, their daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown was born. And in the years to follow their marriage and family would be consistent fodder for the media. Albeit their marriage wasn’t perfect as Whitney stated in her final interview with Oprah in 2009 but they were determined to prove to the world that their marriage was perfect and they were going to make it work. Many even stated that Whitney Houston married Bobby Brown for publicity, in a 1994 interview with ESSENCE, Whitney Houston quickly dispelled those rumors:

“This ain’t about publicity,” she says with a trace of anger. “I wouldn’t do it if it were about publicity. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with somebody I thought was just gonna give me publicity. I’ve got enough of that on my own. And so does he. You don’t have a baby based on that madness. People don’t live like that. Especially Black people who were raised in families with morals and standards and integrity. But the press isn’t gonna sell a paper if they’re saying ‘Well, Whitney and Bobby are doing great! “

Whitney’s friend and former co-star Angela Bassett has decided to bring the story of Whitney Houston and her relationship with Bobby Brown to the small screen in a forthcoming Lifetime biopic due out in 2015. America’s Next Top Model alum Yaya DaCosta will play the beloved Whitney while Arlen Escarpata will play Bobby Brown. Angela Bassett released a statement on her new job as director of the Whitney Houston biopic:

“I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”
