Leading Lady?: Bobbi Kristina Furious Over Whitney Houston Biopic
Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown has unfortunately been known for her random acts that are many time unfavorable to many. This time the daughter of iconic singer Whitney Houston’s issue is with Grammy-award-winning actress and soon-to-be director Angela Bassett over the Whitney Houston Lifetime biopic.
The 21-year-old- previously voiced her desires to play her mother if there was ever a movie done in her name and now that the time has come Bobbi Kristina wants in. And we can certainly understand why she would have such desires after suddenly losing famed mother. However, this is Bassett’s first time toting the director hat and she isn’t trying to take any chances as this could make or break her directorial debut.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly’s Nina Terrero, Bassett openly spoke on her decision to cast Yaya DaCosta as Whitney Houston in the TV movie and noted Bobbie Kristina was not a part of the casting directors considerations.
“I did not think about casting her. And probably for a number of reasons, you know. One being that she’s not an actress. I know she’s acted here and there. I know she’s been on their family’s reality show, but she’s not an actress and acting is a craft,” she stated.
“It’s an attempt to illuminate the complexities of human behavior and life. And this is a very fast-paced schedule; we have just 21 days to tell this story. It’s more than just saying lines and turning the light on. You have to drive the story—there’s a technical aspect,” Basset went on to explain.
However, her explanation seems to have stung Bobbi Kristina as she took to Twitter to respond to the 55-year-old Hollywood gem’s comments.
Bobbie Kristina has since deleted the reactions from her Twitter account.
As mentioned we can certainly understand Bobbi’s Kristina’s desire to be part of the film, however Bassett makes valid points on wanting to cast someone with experience. Bobbi Kristina has also been known to bring her share of drama and with a 21-day shoot the producers would have no time for hiccups.
The casted DaCosta started working as a child actor and could be seen in reoccurring roles on All My Children. She also frequented TV series Ugly Betty and has been in hit films The Butler and Tron: Legacy.
Prior to Bobbi Kristina’s comments, the possibility of involving her seemed a bit more realistic. Even if not as the lead role, Bobbi could have lent her “insider” knowledge of mom and maybe that opportunity still exists… but that’s a hard straw to draw now. Bassett has yet to respond to the outburst and has been one of class and grace so we do not expect this to ruffle her feathers much.
Ladies, should Bobbi Kristina apologize? Should she have some input on her mother’s biopic?
