Disney Live: Beauty and the Beast Remake in Motion

June 6, 2014  |

This time Disney isn’t setting it’s characters to skate live on ice, but they have possibly found a new equation for success. Following the booming release of Maleficient, Disney has announced a few more classics set to go live. The next live action-adaption will be of Beauty and the Beast, reported Variety.

Now, we’re not quite sure if Belle’s lover will be running around in lion head-gear or just a furry handsome guy, as no casting news has yet to surface. But what we do know is Bill Condon is set to direct the new flick for Disney. Condon is best known for his hit adaption of the Golden Globe-winning musical Dreamgirls and also wrote the script for the famed adaptation of the musical Chicago. His experience with musicals, is sure to be appreciated in a film such as this one where if you remember even the clock had a song.

Disney’s recent release of Maleficient grossed more than $170 million worldwide in its opening weekend and they are not turning around from what seems to be a way keep the classic fairytales alive. While Disney is working to get their beloved fairytales back on the big screens, not everyone is a fan. Some have voiced concern over the possible changing of story lines due to turning a cartoon to live-action.

“I am very hesitant about them making live-action films of the classic Disney movies. Maybe it’s the fear that they will ruin them, but if they do decide to do this, PLEASE don’t ruin my favorite childhood movies! Do them justice,” one woman amongst many commented across the web.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is truly a beloved film across fans and even won a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars and adapted into a Broadway musical in 1994.  But, Belle isn’t the only making her live debut. Disney is also set to roll out live action remakes of Cinderella and The Jungle Book.

How do you feel of taking classics to live action movies? Will you and the family go see Belle live?
