Celebrity Chef Pat Neely and Family Dollar Show You How to Get More for Less

March 30, 2014  |

If you haven’t been into your local Family Dollar lately, you’re in for a huge surprise…and even bigger savings! The family-friendly chain has amped up their food section, giving shoppers more options for creating great meals for a LOT less money. Don’t believe the hype? They’re out to prove it with the help of one of our fave celeb chefs, Pat Neely, bringing you The Family Dollar More for Less Recipe Challenge.

Ten food bloggers, ten original recipes made for just 15 dollars or less. And you’ll be ah-mazed by what they’ve come up with; all with ingredients found right at Family Dollar!

“It’s just a one-stop shop and the value is incredible,” Neely tells MommyNoire, explaining how the store stacks up to the “overrated” mega marts that take forever and a day just to get through. “You can stop into Family Dollar, get the same products at a better price and cut your time in half.”

That’s something that any parent who’s ever had to schlep through a supermarket with kids can appreciate.

And anyone who’s trying to save a buck or two (who isn’t these days?!) will love the fact that you can come out of a Family Dollar with everything you need and actually have a little change in your pocket when you leave.

Why did Pat Neely decide to team up with Family Dollar for this project?

Being all about family himself, Neely loves what the brand represents. And despite the fact that he’s a big-time chef and restaurateur, like everyone else, the Food Network star says that he’s always looking to make “good, healthy, convenient meals that are easy, quick, and tasty.” Family Dollar helps him do just that with their “incredible” selection of pantry items and frozen foods.

“One of the things that I’m really impressed with is that the products that they carry are products you can whip together with a variety of different dishes relatively quickly,” says Neely.

Those products include the big brands you know and love — from Keebler to Kraft — along with Family Dollar’s own Family Gourmet, which also offers a wide variety of spices; Pat’s secret for taking any ordinary meal to the extraordinary.

“When you have spices you can take any simple dish and tailor it to be gourmet by adding some garlic salt, or adding some different seasonings, whether it’s black pepper, or red pepper flakes, or chili powder,” he explains. “I can use my spices for the next month or two and [they] can be used for so many different dishes.”

In addition to their perfectly priced spices, Family Dollar also carries a number of other pantry staples that Pat recommends keeping on hand to put together a quick meal in a pinch.

“You’ve got things like some of the soup lines, whether it’s the cream of chicken or instant mashed potatoes that you can do so many things with…. An array of packages where you can make Spanish rice or cheddar broccoli, or you can make chicken broccoli with these sauce packets. Then you’ve got your canned goods where you can get anything from soups to diced tomatoes, tomato paste…those types of things.”

With all of this available, you can only imagine the types of things the food bloggers have cooked up for the More for Less Challenge!

The one with the best recipe will head to Memphis to cook their dish alongside Pat Neely himself. But they won’t be the only ones walking away as winners! YOU can also win big. Starting on March 30, when you share your favorite challenge recipe you’ll be entered for a chance to win FREE groceries for a YEAR! How great is that?!
