Madonna’s Son Rocco Poses for Instagram with a Bottle of Liquor — and He’s Only 13
I never know what’s worse: the nonsense kids get into or the foolishness their parents enable. This time, Madonna posted a photo on Instagram this Saturday of her 13-year-old son Rocco Ritchie and two friends holding bottles of liquor. The caption? “The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014.” E! News says the photo was taken while Madonna was vacationing with her family in the Swiss Alps–where the legal age is 16. The next day she posted a photo of her son’s playmates with the caption, “No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor! Don’t start the year off with judgement!? Sigh. Oh, Madonna.
Where do I begin? First of all, the boy looks foolish playing at being an adult. And most underage drinkers don’t go for gin, period (he’s holding a bottle of Bombay Sapphire). That’s a grown folks’ drink, little boy, and plenty of grown folks don’t like it anyway. But Madonna should really know better. Even if her son isn’t drinking, he looks like he is, and that’s a crime. Just skip the drama.
And what message does this really send? Taking photos with bottles of liquor is a little funny as an adult, maybe, but mostly it’s tacky. Kids learn a lot about how to drink from their parents and if they make it look like excessive consumption is cute–because when you pose with the whole bottle, you’re not trying to drink in moderation–then guess what little Rocco is going to do? The whole thing is foolish, irresponsible and not funny but definitely not the worst parenting we’ve seen.
