“The Pill” for your Man?

June 6th, 2011 - By Veronica Wells

Scientists have been trying to develop male birth control for years now. Today, they  claim the latest version of this medical wonder has no side effects.
The drug temporarily stops semen production but causes no harm to fertility later on down the line.

So far the drug, developed by researchers at Columbia University, has only been tested on mice. But there is speculation that it could be on shelves in near future.

You can read more about this pill and how it works at the Daily Mail.

Ladies and gentlemen, do you think men would willingly share in the responsibility of preventing pregnancies?

Ladies, would you trust your man enough to abandon your own birth control regimen?

All, what do you think such a pill would mean for the number of babies born to single parents, abortion rates etc.?

Men should be on the pill!!!! Damn it be responsible too. The world is already too populated.

So does this mean he wont ……………………… during sex? someone fill me in

It's responsibility and accountability. And I agree, many in the Black Community aren't taking it for their actions. But this pill isn't going to be the savior. It will most likely cause STDs to rise within our community, just as well as any other group of people. And I doubt many men even get this pill seeing that most men don't frequent doctor's offices, especially Black men. It may be offered at the Planned Parenthood locations to reach out to lower income, who knows at this point.

I'm just saying for the most part a lot these guys weren't trapped into fatherhood and a lot of these women are victims of pregnancy via immaculate conception. They played a part by not protecting themselves. This pill will help men further protect themselves against unwanted pregnancy but not against STDs.

      AREN'T*** victims

I agree with what someone mentioned above…I think it would make men less inclined to use condoms and then STDs would be an even bigger issue.

This is AWESOME!!!!! I still think women should use birth control and barrier protection (of course this comes after discussing BC options and clinical STD results with your partner) anyway. But boy I can't wait to ask "HEY! Do you take your pill?!"

Veronica Wells is a dumbazz. Most women aren't even on birth control pills, dont want to take them or forget to take them when they feel its convienent for them to not take the pill. Women are dreading the day they come out with the male birth control pill because the power will be back in a mans hands when he becomes a father and not in the baby crazy woman. Those last three questions are stupid of her to ask and shows how out of touch she is in the real world. Being a single parent and abortion rates are female choices only. If you have a baby out of wedlock, have a baby with a man who no longer wants a relationship with you and if you choose not to have an abortion than you as the woman chose to give birth and become a single mother. If you want to have an abortion, that decision is completely the womans and men have no say legally which means the final decision is in the hands of the woman. Things will be better with male birth control because women hate having to take responsibility for their choices, this pill will tip power back in the favor of men.

My sexual reproductive system has never been in the hands of a woman. I protect myself and have had real women who do the same.

      • CutieReppinNY

Spoken like a true MAN. I respect you for actually being intelligent and responsible, unlike the loser you replied to. Only a foolish BOY really places responsibility on someone else for their life decisions. Unless that women has a gun to your head and is forcing you to sleep with her then it was your choice to lay down, protected or not. If your not ready for the potential consequences of sex, keep it in your pants

That's why men should wrap it up and not make it the woman's job to have birth control. Men need to stop complaining about the problems of a female trapping them and become part of the solution. If she doesn't have a gun to your head threatening your life at that moment you can make a decision to get a condom at least and if she doesn't have one then don't take the risk of getting her pregnant or worse getting and STD. Have more self control and be selective about who you sleep with. It's not that hard(no pun intended)

but MEN are not irrational or irresponsible inherently. you contribute to your deimise when you don't take precaution. Do women really have that much power over men that they cannot take responsibility for themselves? you can find "free food" in the garbage, would you eat it?

      • Jen

        I totally agree!

  • Mzmarie

My guy actually brought this up saying he would. The issue with most men tho would be remembering….

    • menissance

Oh yeah because all these single mothers were so great at remembering to take the pill or were actually telling the truth about being on the pill and it just didn't take. Get the fu*k out of here with that bullsh!t. Men would forget to take the pill my azz. Condoms are a form of protection and work as a non-guaranteed form of birth control. Women have 11+ forms of birth control and the legal righ to an abortion, what the fu*k is their excuse for having all these damn babies? Men already know, women are irresponsible, make the worst decisions reproductively, choose the worse male to father her kids and are biologically baby crazy and go with the impulse of "i wanna baby" and dont care whos the father just as long as she gets some child support, welfare checks and section 8 housing so they dont have to work. SMH

      • simplydvine

lmao.. ur funny.. how many mf'n kids do you have.. women don't make the children alone.. they seed is traveling up the vaginal wall to a fertilized egg.. i wonder how did it get up there.. could it be the lack of self control by these irrresponsible me/boys.. u don't want to make kids, don't want to spread your seed.. wrap that shyt up.. there are condoms.. use them.. women are not the only ones to blame..

why do women have to risk getting blood clots, weight gain and all the other side effects of birth control when men can easily put on a damn condom.. bammmmm.. no pregnancy.. abortion?! who wants to go through the judgement and emotional baggage w/that shyt… again condoms.. men should learn to use them..

now u can GTFOHWTBS!!!! excuses, excuses..
