Cassie Says Her New Album Sounds like Aaliyah

June 1, 2011  |

One thing you can’t deny is Cassie’s beauty. She’s a stunner for sure. You may or may not be a fan of her music (You know she sings, right?), but in the July issue of Nylon magazine the pretty songbird explains the sound of her new album.

It’s a cool blend of pop, hip-hop, and ska. It’s urban Gwen Stefani meets Aaliyah. I hate referencing people but if you had to compare, that’s it.

Yeah, so we’re just going to let you share your thoughts on that. Lovely Madame Noire readers, do you believe Cassie about the sound of her new album? Will you be copping it?

Are you stupid? IF YOU KNEW ANYTHING about Aaliyah, you should know Aaliyah was a trained singer and went to a performing arts school in Detroit. SHE AALIYAH WAS A TRAINED SINGER. PLEASE DO NOT SAY SUCH A STUPID AND IGNORANT statement again. Idiot. RIP to my ONE IN A MILLION ARTIST…AALIYAH DANA HAUGHTON.

oh STFU. READ and READ . YOU are the IDIOT. NO one said she could NOT sing… But compared to her CONTEMPORARIES of HER DAY she was NOT up to par. COMPARED to the OTHER FEMALE Artists of the day (Lil Mo… Whitney Houston…. MARIAH) etc etc,…

This child is delusional. Her singing is equivalent to Diddy's rapping. Garbage

    • MissRae

Well that makes them both having delusion of grandeur, lmao

I feel like the people who claim that Aaliyah couldn't sing really are only judging from her hit singles. Her trademark was "street but sweet" she sang soft and sweetly over hard beats so naturally people will assume that she didn't have a voice. I have heard her hit high notes and I have seen live performances she could do so much with her voice. I believe she would be blowing everyone away if she were still here especially after recently hearing the remake of Donny Hathaway's Giving Up she did years ago.

I know right, From her first album. Aaliyah stated in Throw Your Hands Up " Straight from the streets is where I'm coming from with a touch jazz in me" They obviously didn't see her perform live or listen to her whole albums Songs such as I Refuse and the remakes of At Your Best and Choosy Lover prove that does have good voice. I don't see why how can she can be compared to Ashanti, everytime I heard her live, she sound completely different. Yes Ciara can dance her butt off ,but she is no Aaliyah.

I don't see why people rave about Aaliyah being this great act. I was a teen when she was popular and her music never appealed to me nor did the movies she starred in. She could dance, I'd give her that and only that. Cassie is 24yr and she still trying to find herself. She still has youth on her side hopefully she finds herself in this Hollywood lifestyle before becoming a baby mama

Aaliyah started out at 15 as an artist and had made three GREAT CD'S before she passed at the tender age of 22. I think THAT IN ITSELF SAYS A LOT. NOW CLOSE YA DAMN MOUTH AND SIT YO ASS DOWN.

  • i wouldn't cop it if it were FREE 😛

  • Soso

She doesn't like referencing other artists because she knows she can't match up with their talents.

  • kayla

did anyone else just laugh a little bit,. She has a nice voice, but it's very soft reminds me of janet in a way. Not hating or nothing she proably didnt mean it in the way people are taking it. So calm down people

  • Umm…. I'll listen to it then make my judgment. No one can sound like Aaliyah, no one!

  • Suga Suga

man..yall hating hard on little ole…cassie..:(..
…my girl & I going on vacation…air line gave away $1000 Gift card for anywhere in world..just for giving them our puttin the fam on it..

  • I don't think she means vocally. I think she means the flow of the music she'll put out. Aaliyah had a soft voice, just like Cassie does, but Aaliyah knew how to use it and didn't sound like she was talking across a track (unlike Cassie). Nor does she has the hypnotic voice of Gwen Stefani. Once again, Cassie is type bland on a track.

But she described the genres of her album and the sound of it, which is a blend of a Gwen Stefani and Aaliyah album.

I say we wait and hear before we chop a girl's head off.

  • faebae

umm i dnt think she has the vocals like aaliyah but she can try tho. i give her a girl sit down on this one.

  • WithAllHonesty

Aaliyah was 'One In A Million', Cassie you're a dime a dozen. Stick to modeling and be happy.

Girl stop and take a seat… I admire her efforts…? That’s all I got though
