Oops! School Board Email Leads Parents to Erotic Website
The Chicago Public Schools System wanted to send a basic email to parents about changes to the required standardized test the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT). But, according to Gawker, a little typo led recipients to something a very different.
The email, sent from the system’s Internal Communications email address, hoped to direct parents to the website for the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) at isbe.net. Instead, the email’s author added an “L”, linking to isbel.net. It turns out isbel.net is the home of an online community for women to discuss sex and sexuality. The site is tied to an erotic shop in Belgium.
When they clicked the link in the email, recipients got the cheeky error message, “Oops, someone has been naughty. But we’ll take care of her, we promise.” The page contained a link to the login screen. Though there’s no way to access any material on the site without first being a member, the background shows an unmade bed with a copy of the Kama Sutra in the sheets. Though essentially harmless, the mistake was still embarrassing; the school system has since issued an apology.
