I don’t know about you, but I miss the days of being able to walk inside of a brick and mortar building to rent movies. While I love the convenience of the new stand alone movie rental boxes, it just doesn’t have the same feel. Friday nights used to be a time for me and the family to peruse the aisles of Blockbuster or Hollywood Video and then agree on a few hits to watch together over the course of a weekend (late fees included).
I have yet to hop on the Netflix bandwagon, but those who are devout followers rave about it; we’ll see. Recently I took the time to go through my old DVD’s to bring my kids up to speed on the oldies but goodies that I grew up on. It was a lot of fun to see them taking in the classics that brought me so much joy and laughter – way back when. There are still basic ways to entertain the family without spending a ton of money. Try some of these ideas to put the fun back in your Friday night:
• Host a board game night at your house (invite the grandparents or even your neighbors and their kids)
• Learn how to play a new game as a family
• Plan to watch a few of your favorite television shows together
• Karaoke with the kids can be lots of fun
