From Independent Woman To Married Woman

February 20, 2013  |

You are independent. You’re focused. You work hard. You play hard. And you don’t need anybody…finger snap…until you meet that somebody, who is worth it. Correct?

I, myself, have been there. When I met my current husband, I was a college graduate and a working woman who had her own ride. I hustled to pay my own bills. But when I met the man whose last name I wear, I instantly fell in love and life took a turn of its own…

As a dating couple, decisions had to be made with two in mind, and trust me, I wasn’t prepared for any of it.

Then I got married, and soon after had twin boys. As you can see life was moving…very fast.

But somewhere along the road, I learned that to make things work effectively, I had to make some changes and give up some of my old “independent woman” ways. It was tough going from eating out at my favorite restaurants every night to cooking meals for the family. I went from working full time as a Director to holding things down full time at home.

Everything changed. I went clothes shopping whenever I wanted. Now married, I have to double check every transaction with my husband.

Oh yeah, it didn’t suit me to go from driving my two door sports car to shopping for a new minivan! But as a married woman, those are just a few of the sacrifices that you have to make.

But it’s worth it.

If you have a man that is willing to make sacrifices for you and the family, you have a great thing going. Really, it’s beautiful to have someone to share the ups and downs of life with. Someone who cares and loves you unconditionally. A partner in crime who commits his life to you.

Let life take you where you need to go. Make a sacrifice for him, but never lose you.

Keep those simple things that make you happy- like vacations, stilettos, and mimosas.

Life is about growing and sacrifices have to be made along the way.
