‘Rue’ Gets Real With Kylie Jenner and Her Cornrows

July 12, 2015  |

Instagram

Amandla Stenberg, the actress who played “Rue” in “The Hunger Games” is not here for Kylie Jenner’s cultural appropriation and didn’t hesitate to let the reality star know it.

Jenner who’s been making headlines for her relationship with rapper, Tyga, recently took to Instagram, posting a selfie rocking cornrows with the caption, “I woke up like disss,” with a link to her new wig line. Stenberg was quick to let her know that if she going to use black culture to her advantage, she could at least do it for a good cause. She commented:

“When u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter.”

Kylie Jenner responded with a short, but shady response bringing actor Jaden Smith into the mix:

“Mad if I don’t, Mad if I do…. Go hang w Jaden or something”

Smith was good friends with Jenner in the past and recently escorted Stenberg to prom.

Jenner might want to fall back for a bit. Between rumors of Tyga cheating on her, and the relationship being constantly scrutinized for their age difference, beef with Stenberg is only going to add to her bad press. She is quickly being known more for the drama surrounding her than modeling, acting, partying or whatever she gets paid to do professionally. She may not want it with Stenberg who is already making a name for articulately speaking about race relations and injustice in America with a passion and vigilance that proves she is wise beyond her years.

Do you think Stenberg is being too hard on Kylie or did she really just what we’ve all been thinking?

Oh my gosh!!!! I’m SO EXCITED THAT THE EDITORS OF THIS SITE REMOVED MY COMMENTS BECAUSE THEY WERE THE ONLYYYY NON racist/ignorant/trashy/ghetto/filled with four letter words/about killing white people. GOOD TO KNOW WHAT THIS MAGAZINE PERPETUATES!!! YOU ARE THE black version of the Klu Klux Klan, which MY family ran out of several towns. I will ALWAYS fight for minority rights, SPECIFICALLY blacks, but THIS GROUP IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHY SOLDIERS DIED IN KATRINA. YOU HATE WHITES AAAAND EACH OTHER because YOU HATE YOURSELVES. YOU ARE MISERABLE HUMANS. FACT: HAPPY PEOPLE DON’T SAY AND DO THE THINGS YOU JUST DID OR LIVE THIS WAY. MLK JR. would be ASHAMED of you!!! YOU make his death in vain….a JOKE. He is the ONLY hero I have. I know his life WELL. I say that with perfect knowledge. “Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that.” You make God CRYYYY. I WILL PRAY FOR YOU. TRULY PRAY. BLESS.

REMOVE MY COMMENT. YOU MAKE ME PROUD, COWARDS. IT MEANS MY TRUTH INTRUDES ON YOUR IMAGINARY WORLD YOU’VE CREATED THAT ALLOWS YOU TO SLERP AT NIGHT. ALL criminals justify their crimes….and thus live in their own world. When people like MYSELF speak TRUTH, YOU CANNOT HANDLE IT. You can’t FEEL reality. Or ANYTHING real, including love, happiness, joy, guilt. You can ONLY feel hate. PLEASE, LET GOD BLESS YOU TO CHANGE, THAT YOU NOT DIE OR LIVE IN THIS ****THIS!!!!**** STATE OF LOVELESS, IGNORANT MINDED HATE & EMPTINESS. AMEN!

    • Fleur

You are too old to be acting like this.

      • LauraKayLambeth

To not be racist or to stand out in a crowd of ignorance? Either way I thank you.

        • Fleur

Uhhhhh. Are you the lady I was replying to? Because if not, please find something better to do.

  • Alexis Morris

she isn’t being to hard on her- heck no! this younger generation needs to be the one to step up and check each other for this kind of behavior and not fight on instagram or be like ‘it dont have anything to do with me’ I am so glad that young black american girls like Amandla and Zendaya exist and they are not afraid to open their mouths and speak up and to do it with grace and sophistication.

    • Laura Lynn Belle

      Mine too. See above.

      • Bey Ship

What I basically said was if whites should not wear braids, blacks should not sing opera or dance ballet.

  • Bey Ship

This site censors anyone with a counter opinion. Reading the comments below, you’ll find that they leave alone only the opinions matching their own.

  • @ThisisAnointed

I do not agree with Rue. I do not need a white girl standing up for black rights. Nonsense.
Let her rock the braids and sleep with black boys.
Her black child will take up the serious issues when the time comes.

  • Miss Lady

I find it amusing that there is such outrage and debate over a hairstyle! I do NOT believe Kylie Jenner is “trying to be Black” or “misappropriating the Black culture” because she likes the way she looks in french braids! Really?! We can’t find ANYTHING better to protest?! Honestly, this ain’t nothin but a lot of shade being thrown because this lil girl is doing way bigger things than most grown ppl out here, myself included. We put these ppl in the spotlight, scrutinize every aspects of their lives, then criticize them for living in the public eye!! Grow up and get REAL lives or VALID complaints about race relations in America because I guarantee you not ONE of Kylie’s cornrows has shot, killed, or racially profiled ANY Black person!!!

  • AquaGyrl315

It doesn’t matter she will never be black or age appropriate for a 25 year old man. Kylie has to get attention some way so she feels the need to act out like a two year old child. Grow up already, better yet find a 17 year old to impress. #laughable

  • SHEBA HUGHES

I can wear my hair anyway I choose. If I want plat. blond on my dark skin I can. If I want blue eyes on my brwn skin I can. If white girls want to braid their hair who are you to say they are making any kind of racial statement. Why not suggest they get a better stylist? Or try a different style but 2 make a hair style choice into a racial blarb is just stupid Not only is it stupid but it aint cho bizzmess.

  • alasia min

Straight hair is a white person style, black people don’t give credit to appropriating that, double standard

    • secret87

Majority of blacks are born with straight hair. Kinda like whites being born blonde, but become brown haired later in life. Also asians, native Americans, arabs, ect can have straight hair. Every thing whites feel is their own already exists in other races.

  • Karl Hutchense

Cracking up at all of the deleted comments. Did PimpMama order all negative comments about her precious baby to be deleted? Bah ha ha ha. What a freaking joke this page is.

    • secret87

Loooool! Maybe for every comment against her daughter that gets deleted is 5 cents earned.

    • Laura Lynn Belle

THIS SITE is a MAGAZINE!!!! Disgusting!!!

  • Renee

My comment was removed, for what I don’t know, but… like I said, what happen to parenting, this child has gone wild and spin out of control, she have had many surgeries… but can’t read off a T.V. monitor, sad, just sad, this child need to stay in a child place at all times.

  • Julie007

Black women get weaves to change things up a bit and accessorize so to speak but White women do too. People would be shocked at how many White women have weaves. I have complemented a couple of young White girls on their thick curly hair and they were like, “Oh, this is a weave.” Also, a good number of Black women flatiron or relax their hair to assimilate because it’s difficult for some Whites to accept their beautiful natural hair or locs at work. Women actually get passed over for promotions because they wear braids, afros, curls, etc. It can be a lot of pressure. I’m 100% sure that if suddenly, it were generally acceptable to go natural in corporate America, Black women across America would do so. We may still switch it up as we like to be versatile and stylish, but would definitely go natural more of the time. There’s nothing more freeing than a nice wash and go.

  • GymJunkie43

I don’t blame the women, I blame the men. Look how many black and non black men will date a cheap looking, factory made impostor of a black woman – thick weave, lip and butt implants, tanning lotion – instead of just dating a black woman.

  • akatsukihana

Imagine if Beyonce woke up and took a pic in her shimmering blonde weave and a white woman starts to lambast her about cultural appropiation. I didnt know black ppl copyrighted cornrow (which is a form of braiding)? My hair is my hair and how i want to style it is none of ur concern. I find Kjenner usually offputting but speaking objectively here Stendberg was out of line. Why u mad, bruh?

  • themeowster

The moment we realize the jenners/kardashians are no longer relevant will be an awesome moment.

  • Jjj

I think white or black people should get to wear their hair how they want without one culture thinking they own anything. I think its small minded. The world is larger than your hair. Let people post what they would like to post. If they want to be political let them. If they want to just have fun in their life and be silly let them. Don’t make them be you. Do you and stop judging others for them having fun being themselves whether its for their business or their friends or otherwise.

    • themeowster

I don’t know if it’s JUST the hair with this gal, though. There’s this weird fetish this particular family has with black women’s style and black men (not the whole family, but at least half of them) and this one in particular seems to be relishing in her ignorance.

  • Tee

Reading these comments is mind boggling… This is why I don’t bang with social media much anymore…. #sad

    • SunnyDaisy

Thanks for the heads up…i definately wont the reading the comments then

  • Treacle234

Amanda girl, what is wrong with you.

  • bookworm

Amandla would impress me if she had the guts to call out Beyonce for her cultural appropriation of white folks or is her view on race one-sided. Or many it would show how silly and immature she is being.

  • OSHH

Oh me o my…if non-blacks didn’t have black culture, flavor, style, features, flyness etc etc etc to appropriate, what would they do?

  • andalso

seems like old girl woke up on the wrong side of the bed. so what if kylie wears cornrows. black women wear weaves to promote perms and hair coloring which is not good for black hair.. i guess hate is everywhere.

    • bookworm

Thank you. Scandavians and Indians braid their hair, so who says she is copying their style. This young woman is bitter because her career didn’t take off after Hunger Games. And what makes Amandla Black, her father is Swedish and mother African American, which makes her about 60-70% White. Isn’t she being racist by following the racist one drop rule. I am not a race sheep and don’t believe in the whole cultural appropriation trope (in fact, I think the whole idea of blacks only contributing hair and music to society is racist) and don’t celebrities have a need to speak out on political issues. Humans borrow from each other. Amandla is not enlightened, but she is a confused and disillusioned young girl. And why is she finding her self esteem by living through vicarious and racial stereotypes?

  • Raze

Amber Rose is mixed and does not identifies with her (small portion) of black blood. So no, she’s not like Rachel Dolezal.

  • Raze

Amber Rose is not even black…

    • Sarah

Looking at Amber Rose’s mother, you don’t have to shake her tree too hard for “black” to fall out…

  • mmmdot

And btw, lol: You’re nothing but the violent illiterate penal colony white trash they kicked out of that SUBCONTINENT of Asia we call ‘Europe’…which was a backwater wilderness full of diseased, thieving, savage barbarians who knew nothing of basic sanitation anyway. So that should tell you JUST how worthless you are. It’s a shame the bubonic plague wasn’t more successful. You thieving savages should have stayed where you fxcking belonged. Ghetto? You cavedwellers aren’t even FULLY anatomically modern humans [aka homo sapiens sapiens.] Take your PHONY white superiority complex down a notch, sparky. Mmmkay? LOL.

The FACTS ARE that you’re ACTUALLY descended from the dregs of society – the most uncivilized, warlike, antisocial, destructive, mentally immature group of parasites to ever exist. Deal with it, you STUPID racist white bxtch. Something is WRONG with you childish, melanin deficient, no-lip-having, knuckle dragging, pasty Neanderthals and EVERYONE knows it except YOU. The way you insecure white children OBSESS over Black people is TRULY PATHETIC. Get a life, you LAZY BUM. Lol. Dealing with you “people” is like dealing with DUMB ANIMAL with a bone that JUST won’t LET IT GO. Ugh. Lol. Stop projecting YOUR insecurities and mental deficiencies onto Black people, you redneck incest. Kay?

  • mmmdot

Yea, NO. Genocide is NOT “normal.” No one gives a fxck about your dumb racist opinions and assumptions. We’re dealing with REALITY- historical and otherwise. Mmmkay? You whites are UNIQUELY EVIL bloodthirsty savages. Deal with it.

The ‘Europeans’ weren’t smartest or brightest but WERE the most willing to use RAPE, aggression, hostility, brute force, and violence to bring about their social and political will. Why? Because you’re diseased backwards primitive violent savages from a backwater wilderness. And before you resort to that old tired argument ‘they did it too!’, remember, the non-white psychos TODAY had the finest teachers in anti-human psychopathy for HUNDREDS of years: the ‘Europeans!’

Everyone: White women are some of the worst perpetrators of racist violence, aggression, physical assault, and bullying in this society – especially against Black women and children. White female teachers are the MAIN ones responsible for branding innocent Black children “unteachable” and exposing them to school-to-prison pipeline – they need to be held accountable for violating against the basic human and civil rights of innocent schoolchildren.

  • mmmdot

Everyone: White female teachers are the MAIN ones responsible for branding Black children “unteachable” and exposing them to school-to-prison pipeline. You want to know why Black boys are getting prison records just for breathing the wrong way in school? Point the finger at all the “nice”, “rational”, “pure”, ad “maternal” white women who ENJOY bullying CHILDREN and harming them FOR LIFE, JUST to prop up their OWN unstable white female identities and egos.. Many of the “innocent” GROWN AZZ white women in this nation’s schools BULLYING innocent CHILDREN need to be held accountable for violating the basic human and civil rights of children of African descent. There is NO REALITY to the concept that white women are LESS RACIST than white men.

    • 1Val

      Yassss!
Your comment took me back to my son’s high school teacher who attempted to bully my son.
I opened a can of whip arse on her so thoroughly deep, embarrassed her in front of her colleagues and humiliated her in front of her administrators so much so she refuse to individually speak to my son in her class.
My husband and son begged me to just let it go.
But I wanted her to know that school was in and I was one of her greatest teachers of her racism was unacceptable and my son was off limits.
There are too many white trash educators who are first generation college graduates with limited cultural exposure teaching in public education.

      • mmmdot

Good for you, girl. We need to spend more time SPECIFICALLY pointing out white women’s racism and holding white women FULLY legally and socially accountable for their racism and violence against Black women and Black children. These racist white bxtches are FAR from “innocent”, “rational” , “pure,” or “ideal.” Any GROWN AZZ WOMAN that would SPECIFICALLY bully and sabotage innocent schoolchildren is a LOSER and an uncivilized, disgusting, and evil sociopath. Period.

  • mmmdot

Everyone: White women are some of the worst perpetrators of racist violence, aggression, physical assault, and bullying in this society – ESPECIALLY against Black women and Black girls. There is a LONG history of white female bullying of Black women and children. We don’t say enough about how racist white women go out of their way to SPECIFICALLY harm Black women and children JUST to prop up their OWN unstable white female identities and egos.

I can’t STAND sociopathic white women and their sociopathic CROCODILE white tears™. White women CONSTANTLY arrange the whole damn universe to always center around themselves and their fee fee’s. Even worse, their white tears™ are like a clarion call for EVERYONE – especially whites AND black “males” – to comfort or defend white women after they’ve been oppressive and violent.

There is NO REALITY to the concept that white women are LESS RACIST than white men.

  • mmmdot

    I’m a white person™ I think I know about racism cause my

    ancestors invented it. – You

I’m a white person™ my parents told me I’m a special snowflake and the state treats me like it’s favorite son so my uninformed, uneducated white opinions™ hold weight ok? – You

I’m a white person™ I don’t want to tell you your opinions – I just want to explain why they’re invalid. – You

  • mmmdot

No one cares what you fxcking think, you dumb white tard! How many times do you have to be told something before it sinks into your teeny-weeny little peabrain? Take it back to the caves you crawled out of and stop OBSESSING over Black people because you have no friends, no life, and no business of your own, you revolting, decrepit, inadequate, diseased looking, bleached out, melanin deficient, knuckle dragging Neanderthal. You’re lucky you have an obsession with us, your life is CLEARLY pathetic without it. Get a life, you dumb fxcking animal.

  • ApMillz-CT

    Lol.. Ok

  • ApMillz-CT

Amber is not black! She doesn’t consider herself black either!

  • dj

But it’s OK for Beyonce to straighten and color her hair blonde?!? HYPOCRITES!!!

    • Raze

Beyonce has had quite her share of backlash before, so don’t even bother to go there.

  • Jolly

It’s black culture. It’s the Whites that shouldn’t be appropriating. What do blacks have to appropriate to white culture all they do is make fun of White people for being bland and boring. Don’t treat both cultures like they are the same. Wake up!

  • secret87

I say it all the time. Biracials with black moms are more racially aware vs those with white moms and blk color struck daddies. I love this girl. And that loose jenner girl no one will be mad if you,but happier if you vanished.

    • Simon666

Black women praising half white women for telling them to appreciate their culture more. Talk about light skin privilege.

      • secret87

Um shes calling out Janner. I lovr my culture just don’t love black men. Will sleep with a morbidly obese, scooter riding white woman at Walmart, but when rich date these underage or older fake bodied white women. My future children will be biracial, and unlike biracials with white moms and twisted black daddies they will love themselves and won’t hate bw for fun ect.

        • Simon666

Hurray team swirl. Go pretty girls with good hair and big curls. They can wear them in cornrows, it will be part of their culture from momma’s side.

          • secret87

Im team love. Black men can only love themselves and can’t provide as a father nor husband. Im not into having fatherless kids,so save that good hair mess.

            • Simon666

Let me get this straight: you seem to have some kind of self hate issues concerning the men of your race but somehow you’re cool with this half white girl “schooling” a white girl about black culture and what she can or cannot wear?

              • secret87

Play stupid if you want. I can’t wait until the whole kardashian crew is gone and can take the white gay men and blk men who love them with them.

    • BlackIowan

Oh my God I thought I was the only who noticed this. It is true with biracials who have black moms are much more aware. I feel like they know who they are as a person. Honestly when I meet one, I can tell who has a black mom and who has a white mom by the way they’re raised. Those white mothers are leading them astray not knowing how to go about their half blackness.

      • Jjj

Excuse me? You cannot tell someone that YOU think they know who they are more based on their parent. THAT IS UTTER BULLSHIT. The problem with Black American’s is that they think everyone with dark skin should fit into their category of what BLACK IS. Guess what? BLACK IS WHAT I MAKE IT. BLACK IS WHAT I’M PROUD OF BEING ON MY OWN TERMS not yours. I do not fit stereotypes I fit what makes me happy. It doesn’t matter if I speak with ebonics and have a hood accent or with proper english people dub white girl speak. SCREW YOU! You do not know how I or an other biracial person was raised. My father is from Africa. If I came on here and spoke the way these “black” (and I only put quotes because you think its the only right way to be) women acted I would be slapped across the face and have been. I know exactly who I am. And I am proud of it. I was raised as my parents chose to raise me, not someone ignorant like you thinking their way is the only way. I CANNOT believe that people feel they have the right to spew such hatred just because their skin is of color its pathetic and ignorant.

        • BlackIowan

WELL GUESS WHAT? Both my parents are from Eastern Africa. And by blackness, I meant culture. Not stereotypical culture, but the history of black people. You decided to get irate though and not understand the depth of my comment.

          • Jjj

No, you made the assumption people don’t know who they are because of their white mother’s. I’ll tell you what, live that life first before you judge it. I am irate, because what you posted was hateful and as far as I’m concerned racist.

            • BlackIowan

I apologize for making you feel that way. I said some, not all. When “some” black men marry white only some of the time it’s to erase their blackness and have non black kids because they don’t see black as valuable. You don’t have to believe me, but that’s the truth. I’ve seen it everywhere. Don’t believe it? Look it up. Am I against biracial? Hell no. The anger is from when black men day and day out call us black women ugly and so many other hateful comments. They want us to see them with their white woman and for us to feel jealous, but the second we step out with a white man, it’s war.

              • secret87

Not some the majority do. People have this fantasy mind of black men. When you bring them to reality it makes them angry.

          • secret87

People being politically correct here. We know the truth.

      • secret87

I feel I can relate with a biracial from a black mom, plus they come off more classy vs ghetto loud biracials I’ve met coming from ww and blk daddy combo. Biracials from ww also have a superior complex too.

        • BlackIowan

I agree. I know everyone is different, but this is how I see it too. Biracials with a black mom are so soft spoken, which they probably get from their mothers.

          • secret87

Exactly. Don’t matter if her mom is black American, carribean, (enter African country here) ,or somewhere in Europe. Its the same very feminine and soft spoken. I have been in fear sometimes of biracials with white moms and blk dads they can come off rude, and in America act like there up for a fight.

    • judy

This is a myth. Look at Diana Ross kids, Donna Summers kids and so forth. Clearly u have a bias since you chase anything non black. Black females like you are losers. Date the rainbow, thats not a problem but why are you so angry/bitter against non black women and black men? Whats with the stereotypes? This is how I know you are only dating out your race because you think you wil achieve sonme sort of status. You only date out because you feel rejected.

      • secret87

Well this loser won’t be on welfare, single with kids. And lol what status? Im not a blk man chasing anything white no matter how it looks like. Just be glad people like me are not interested in bm meaning more bm for you and any other likely single with kids family members for yall to have. You already gotta
compete with Becky in her scooter and portable oxygen tank. Your welcome. 😉

      • secret87

Those women you mentioned are soft spoken vs biracials with white moms are loud.

    • themeowster

Interesting. My boyfriend is half black/half chilean (black father, latina mother) and he identifies with both ethnicities, even though he was primarily raised by the Chilean side of his family. He acknowledges that, to the rest of the world, he looks like a black guy and that’s about it.

      • secret87

        Good for him.

  • Ralph Malph

I have to ask- should white women say the same thing when black women bleach their hair blonde?

    • Fran

We are speaking of cultural appropriation, idiot. Black women never wanted flat behinds or bland hair.

      • Ralph Malph

Your insulting language does nothing to bolster your comment. And, if you look at many of the black pop stars, they do indeed have bleached blonde hair. (not bland hair- why would anyone want bland hair?) My comment was not a dig, it was an honest question. If a white woman is guilty of appropriating black culture with corn rows, is a black woman similarly guilty of appropriating white culture with bleached blonde hair?

  • Renee

What happen to parenting? This child has gone wild and spin out of control, she have had many plastic surgeries, but… couldn’t read off a T.V. monitor, sad, just sad!!! This child needs to stay in a child place, at all times.

  • jean

why must only ignorant black men comment when there are plenty of intelligent ones who could? maybe we should define our terms. cultural appropriation is about the DOMINANT culture appropriating elements of an OPPRESSED one, not the other way around. all this criticism about black women in rainbow color extensions looking silly(we look cute) but do you have the same comment about white women who wear just as many extensions as we do, by the way, in shades of pink, purple and gray? didn’t think so. do you see white men telling their women they look ugly and stupid when they tan to the point of getting skin cancer? why is it so difficult to simply have this black woman’s back when she is in the right? you know, the same way you want us to when you get choked out for walking down the street? self-hatred is real.

    • Simon666

You go girl, create your own definitions on the fly and see whether the DOMINANT culture accepts you telling them what to do, what not to do, what to wear, what not to wear.

    • Brad

If white women are not allowed to have cornrows then it is only fair that black women are not allowed to straighten their hair. Dont be a hypocrite.

      • 1Val

Many black women are BORN with straight hair. Having straight is not a genetic feature exclusively for whites. Haven’t you seen Asians, Latinas and Native Americans women with straight hair also? Your racist ignorance is profoundly stupid.

        • themeowster

Yeah, a hairstyle is not the same as hair texture/color. I don’t understand the logic behind using this excuse as comparison.

    • themeowster

I think it’s because the intelligent men don’t peruse through gossip sites. lol

  • Simon666

Another victory for black women. First the flag, now this. Black men did nothing when David Beckham culturally appropriated cornrows. You go, sistas.

  • Petty Levert

Jesus. I figured some of you “black women appropriate because they wear weaves too” ashies would crawl from up under your dusty rocks. Okay purveyors of ash and dust, male and female alike:
    Go to your computer
Open your browser (chrome, safari, any one of them works)
    Look up appropration
Look up assimilation (forced or otherwise)
    LEARN. THE. FU*KING. DIFFERENCE

And for all of you “sistas” crowing about how your hair has been natural since birth and neither chemical or a strand of weave has ever touched your blessed scalp, sorry there are no cookies being given out here, perhaps you can bake some for yourselves.

    • mmmdot

THANK YOU! Dafuq is wrong with these morons?!?

      • Petty Levert

For men any opportunity to sh!t on Black women they will jump on. For patriarchal princesses with internalized misogynoir issues: looking for approval from these dusty bastards who only really want a Dolezal in their lives.

        • mmmdot

Lmbo! So sad but so true. But where the fxck are these Black women who are ACTUALLY agreeing with the insecure, worthless, wimpy, cowardly, unmanly, sissified black “male” trolls on this site coming from?

        • mmmdot

No REAL man would be be haunting a WOMEN’S website and harassing ALL the women on it for days, weeks, and months at a time like some kind of lonely, ugly, psychotic stalker. No real man that I would have basic respect for as a man – let alone even date – would think it’s socially acceptable to behave in such an entitled, intrusive, and misogynistic way in a women’s space. If we’re not dealing with racist white trolls defending white supremacy, we’re dealing with misogynistic black “male” trolls defending misogynoir. This is a SERIOUS problem with Black women’s websites.

And I PARTICULARLY don’t have any kind of respect for the PARTICULARLY disrespectful, rude, immature, hateful, and misogynistic black “male” trolls that this site PARTICULARLY tends to attract. It’s pretty bad on ALL Black women’s sites, but this site attracts some of the worst black “male” trolls I’ve ever seen. I think part of the reason this site gets such n*sty racist white trolls and misogynistic black “male” trolls is because its affiliated w/ Bossip and gets some of it’s n*sty racist and sexist regulars.

    • Simon666

We’re supposed to look it up on activist website which twist dictionary definitions and give it a new meaning using faulty “logic”?

      • Petty Levert

Or merriam webster works too. You know, in case it’s too difficult for you to pick one up.

        • Simon666

          Appropriate:
          1. to get or save (money) for a specific use or purpose
          2. to take or use (something) especially in a way that is illegal, unfair, etc.

          Neither applies. Nice try.

          • Petty Levert

Well beings that we are talking about a culture, I would have thought that you would have been smart enough to look up CULTURAL appropriation but…..oh well.

            • Simon666

Cultural appropriation isn’t on webster. Culture and appropriation seperately are though.

        • mmmdot

Girl…don’t even try with this white trash troll that is literally OBSESSED with Black people. This thing LITERALLY incapable of acknowledging reality and wants US to be as DELUDED with their THREADBARE white supremacist lies as THEY are. To tell lies is bad enough, but to believe your own DELUDED THREADBARE lies for HUNDREDS of years is far worse.

          • Simon666

Use more capitals. Say with me: I HATE WHITE PEOPLE. KILL THEM ALL.

            • mmmdot

LMAO! Go burn to a CRISP right on top of your burning cross, you white trash racist. Look tard, even if we DID shoot the white trash hillbilly right out of your head, you’d be getting off light because at least I don’t think you should be enslaved for hundreds of years like cattle/ livestock and systematically be imprisoned or killed off when you’re no longer of any use to me. It would be in RESPONSE to centuries of your sociopathic and violent white supremacist terrorism that HASN’T STOPPED YET.

A lot of whites deserve to be burned alive for what they’ve done and continue to do to people of African descent. Deal with it.

      • Petty Levert

Or you can look at merriam webster dot com. You know, just in case it’s too hard for you to actually pick up the book itself beloved.

      • mmmdot

Go die in a fire you dumb trolling white trash piece of shxt. That’s what YOU ‘need to do.’ Period. The TYPICAL white ‘person’ is a sociopath who decides THEIR DELUSIONS are equivalent to HISTORICAL REALITY. You wouldn’t know ‘logic’ if it crawled out of your inbred, white trash Uncle-Daddy’s crusty azz, you BASIC BXTCH TROLL. Fxck outta here you OBSESSED troll. Constantly stalking Black people AND this site for Black women like a psycho! Get a life, you dumb fxcking animal.

        • Simon666

Your capitalization and general writing style point to serious mental issues. Get help.

          • mmmdot

LOL!!! Another ignorant troll obsessed with Black people – Yawn! You’re lucky you have an obsession with us, your life is CLEARLY pathetic without it. What’s even sadder is that you actually think your opinion matters. Thankfully, this delusion is contained in your cracked out racist little head. You lowlife inbred white maggot stalker trolls that are OBSESSED with Black people need to stop and get lives, friends, and business of your own. Take it back to your pigpen, white trash. Constantly stalking me like a psycho! Get a life, you dumb fxcking animal.

            • Simon666

I’ll just let your post speak for itself and for you.

              • mmmdot

And I’ll let the fact that you KEEP ON STALKING and TROLLING a website for Black women like an OBSESSED stalker troll speak for ITSELF. You can’t EVEN address it, you sociopathic white CREEP. Instead of conducting OBSESSIVE and pathological levels of surveillance on Black people, you need to concentrate on FULL white ACCOUNTABILITY and RESTITUTION, so we can ALL move on with our lives and YOU white sociopaths can leave us THE FXCK ALONE. Period.

                • Simon666

Restitution? You should date me, like Azalea Banks. You may get your reparations after all that way. Go for the money, what us white men stole from you.

                  • mmmdot

“From the perspective of those who are entitled, the problems begin when those they despise do not go along with – and have the power and wherewithal to not go along with – the perceived entitlement…[i]f the rhetoric of superiority works to maintain the entitlement, hatred and direct physical force remains underground. But when that rhetoric begins to fail, force and hatred waits in the wings, ready to explode. – ‘The Culture of Make Believe’ by Derrick Jensen

                  • mmmdot

Lol! You’re scared of the retribution that you SO RICHLY deserve. Either compensate for it OR gtfoh. Because you’re NOT convincing anyone to fall for your white supremacist b.s. Mmmkay? Get the fxck over it.

                    • Simon666

Lmao. First restitution, now retribution. You obviously don’t know one from the other. But I’m sure you think you’re smart enough to school us on what “privilege” constitutes or what “cultural appropriation” means.

                    • mmmdot

If you PAY RESTITUTION you won’t be subjected to the RETRIBUTION that you SO RICHLY deserve. It’s NOT that hard of a social concept to grasp, you racist tard.

…But then again when you’re a deluded, racist white sociopath who’s DEDICATED to the concept of NEVER taking full personal responsibility (and stalking Black people like a fxcking creep) it probably IS a foreign concept to you. Typical. Fxcking sociopathic white trash.

        • MC12

          Calm down.

        • themeowster

I’m all for freedom of speech, so this isn’t a knock on you (since we’ve gone back and forth in the past) but I don’t know how your comments don’t get deleted by the mods when they’re full on attacking someone personally and other comments simply disagreeing with the article get deleted with the quickness.

Again, I personally don’t care if you go at it with anyone online but the mods really need to start accepting differing opinions because it’s a little weird that these comments aren’t deleted lol

  • mmmdot

Cultural appropriation occurs when a style leads to racist generalizations or stereotypes where it originated but is deemed as high fashion, cool, or funny when the racially privileged take it for themselves. Cultural appropriation is the appropriation of Blackness as a “consumable product”, without any credit to or respect for those it is taken from. I’m tired of Black creativity being used as a idea mill from which others – primarily boring, stupid, and disrespectful whites – take advantage and reap the most prestige and profit.

  • egypt

    hey

  • Sushi Lovers Unite

soooo black women wear corn rows and braids they are nappy headed hoes whose hair was inappropriate for the work place. they put in a weave to conform and they want to be white??? oh well I’m just going to do what makes me happy because either way society will have a problem with it!

  • Shannan

all women regardless of skin color does something to enhance their looks. So believe it or not no ones natural.

  • lechuguita

How can you tell if an African American are ignorant. When they speak of cultural appropriation. Those who are having issue with this need to go to amazon and pick up the book 1493. THIS IS WHEN THEM MOTHER OF ALL APPROPRIATION ACTUALLY HAPPENED YET BARELY ANYBODY KNOWS ABOUT BUT EVERYBODY ON THE PLANET DID BENEFIT FROM IT.

This is why people who know more then basic history do not call normal cultural changes appropriation, since this something that has been happenings since humans starting walking the earth.

As an hispanic when I see parts of my culture “appropriated” I only wish it gets recognized as being Hispanic and I feel this is what is Amandla Stenberg is getting at. We need to recognized the huge contributions Africans have given to our culture. The US society has definitely benefited from African culture but refuses to recognized that Africa help defined this country, you can tell this is true when it took the death of churchgoers to finally realized what is obvious to Hispanics like myself that the flag had to come down, if the US society had given African culture the respect it gives European one, the confederate flag would have never flown over capital grounds in the first place.

  • Snakebite

Cornrows are hardly a “black-only” cultural feature. Other civilizations have braided their hair like that for centuries. Instead of contributing to racism or making me wish police brutality would happen to her face, Stenburg (awfully “black” sounding–but hey, people like her often go above and beyond to conform) should just shut up.

    • Vee

You need to stfu and you don’t know What you are talking about. White people never had culture. If y’all did How come y’all so bland?

  • nefarious

Almost everything we do, see and know in this society is the product of European Culture. So if Amanda Stenberg wants to stop driving cars, using computers, electricity, air conditioning, appearing in movies or t.v. or the radio, using the internet, speaking English, using modern medicine, playing most sports (even basketball was made up by Whites), wearing most clothing, going to school, not to mention just about everything else she knows and does on a daily basis than Stenberg can continue with her stupid “racial appropriation” talk otherwise the idiot can shut up.

    • Femme404

      THIS!

    • Tanya

Most of the things you listed above WERE NOT invented by white people or which Whites stole credit for. You need to go back and do your research. White people did not even invent soap.

      • Simon666

You go girl. School him. Computers, cars, electricity,… you name it, everything the white man stole from black Egyptians. Then he murdered them and claimed all his inventions as his own.

        • nefarious

Egyptians had cars, computers and electricity? HA! By the way Egyptians weren’t even Black.

          • Tanya

Egyptians weren’t black you mother. Your people were colonialists who invaded thenentite world for resources. Stupid white trash.

            • nefarious

LOL! Egyptians were Semitic and still are. All North African societies were. Fool.

              • Tanya

Point is there were NO White people until your people committed genocide. Stupid troll.

                • nefarious

Black Fiction. North Africans have been Semitic for all of recorded history. North Africans have been Semitic for thousands of years.

                  • Tanya

Look up and do research on your own history. Stop trying to fictionalize ours moron.

“Not Out Of Africa: How “Afrocentrism” Became An Excuse To Teach Myth As History” by Mary Lefkowitz

              • Tanya

That was a typo. Egyptians were BLACK not White. You are the one That’s an idiot.

                • Bey Ship

No they weren’t and genetics can prove it. Cleopatra was pasty white and Greek.

          • Simon666

That’s what they tell you in your white textbooks, after they put chains on the necks of all black historians and told them to pick cotton.

            • Tanya

Your ancestors lied to you. They put that trash in your heads not other cultures. Go find a clue.

              • Simon666

Even the paper your white textbooks are written on, are racist. Paper comes from “papyrus”, a black Egyptian invention. You stole it from us, before paper used to be black with white symbols on it. White man stole it, now paper is white and has little black letters and numbers on it, symbolizing black oppression and cultural appropiation all at once. What more proof do you need that white people are evil?

                • Tanya

This idiot thinks his own culture invented these things for us when all they did was kill us, chain us up, and build this country on the backs of slaves. White people ARE NOT heroes at all.

                  • Simon666

You tell it girl. White people did nothing constructive ever in the history of mankind. They should all be wiped off the earth.

                  • Bey Ship

Right, because no other race did anything in America. No Chinese contributed to building railroads? Black slaves did it all?

      • nefarious

You’e as big an idiot as Amanda Stenberg.

        • Tanya

F*ck You. You have no clue who are you better ask your own people to teach you your real history.

          • nefarious

Retard. Keep living in your fantasy world.

            • Tanya

And you have no culture. What you getting at?

              • nefarious

Blah, blah, blah. You’re just making stuff up. It’s completely ridiculous.

                • Tanya

Go read a book and Stop lying to people. Nobody is talking about your bland food, hairstyles, or clothing cause Whites didn’t even invent none of it.

                  • nefarious

Read this: “Not Out Of Africa: How “Afrocentrism” Became An Excuse To Teach Myth As History” by Mary Lefkowitz

              • Bey Ship

Another insult that stays. So basically, if an opinion entered here – that doesn’t call someone names, doesn’t curse at anyone, but says the opposite of what you’re saying, it get flagged and removed. No free speech allowed by the cowardly Madame Noir staff.

          • Bey Ship

I can’t believe you get to swear at people and degrade them and your comment gets to stay, but let me say I think “cultural appropriation” is BS and mine gets deleted.

      • Girl

STOP LYING!!!!! YOU MUST BE WHITE AND WHITES DON’T HAVE THEIR OWN CULTURE EXCEPT IT WAS STOLEN BY OTHER CULTURES. IF YOU HAD YOUR OWN CULTURE, YOU WHITES WOULDN’T EVEN BE APPROPRIATING SH**T OR STEALING FROM OTHER CULTURES.

        • nefarious

          LOL! Idiot.

                • Bey Ship

Do you only come to black women’s sites? Do you ever comment on black men’s sites? Ever go to a white women’s site? Bet you do.

            • Bey Ship

              4th one!

        • Bey Ship

3rd insult and you still get to keep your comments posted? Come on Madame Noir!

  • Hello

What will we say about black women with blonde weaves. And blue contact lens because I see them all the time. Is that white culture appropriation.

    • Raze

Black women who wear contact lenses aren’t pretending to look white. They are simply trying to exotify their own black features. Those who wear blonde weaves just want to experiment with new colors. No one would complain if some Asian chick dies her hair blonde, or if some white girl dyes het hair a myriad of different colors, so why can’t a black woman change her hair color?

  • Karl Hutchense

At least Rue can formulate a coherent thought. Kylie’s response is infantile and further proves that she is emotionally and mentally stunted at age 13.

    • renee

HER STUPID MOTHER IS TOO! THE OLD HAG ONLY KNOWS HOW TO SHOW THEM HOW TO PROSTITUTE THEIR BODIES.

  • Femme404

I wish people would let this damn girl LIVE.

    • renee

NO SHE NEEDS TO BE CALLED OUT! WHITE PEOPLE THINK THEY CAN SHOT US AND STILL GO TO CONCERTS AND DANCE TO OUR MUSIC AND ALMSOT TRY TO FORCE US TO RIF=DE THEIR V A GI NAS AND P E N IS !

      • Femme404

This is America. We ALL share the same culture and steal from each other. Like I said let her live and be who she wants to be.

And stop typing in ALL CAPS.

        • lechuguita

sorry Femme404 when you post publicly is because you want the world to know your views, which is fantastic but then that means you are going to be challenged and you need to be ready to defend those views or be enlightened.

  • metallyinsane27

    It’s just hair

  • Karl Hutchense

She got a massive crease between her brows. Better run back to the doc for some more botox, honey!

  • tkell31

With all the racism out there it boggles the mind how a black person like Stenberg can become an actress. How is that even possible? And how did we ever get a black President? It’s amazing how selective this rampant racism is.

And for f sake, someone define black culture? What exactly does it embrace that is so different than white culture?

    • renee

eVEN WITH ALL OF THAT, THEY ARE A VERY SMALL PERCENT OF THE POPULATION! WHITE PEOPLE ONLY DO THAT SO BLACK PEOPLE WON’T COMPLAIN! BUT GUESS WHAT, WE ARE CREATING OUR OWN MOVIES AND TV SHOWS NOW. NEXT OUR OWN TV STATIONS AND NETWORKS LIKE OWN(OPRAH)!!

  • Karl Hutchense

What an ignorant, bratty didwad! I can’t wait for her to run out of that
dirty money. She burns through way more than she takes in, plus, she is
probably supporting that wanna-be, perv rapper too. Kylie and Kendall’s
$kanky “back-to-school” line for Pac-Sun will get a lot of moronic girls
sent to detention. Ever hear of dress codes, you idiots!? Not one
piece of that $lutty collection is suitable to be worn in public.

  • renee

She said the right thing to this pink hag! Her and her sisters think they can be black just because they are licking black men. Amandla could have said it better. This is just what I was thinking. white women think it is ONLY ABOUT RIDING BLACK P E N IS..

    • secret87

      Only if he’s rich.

    • Simon666

Good call. Amandla Stenberg is right, she was taught by her mom, it is better to ride white p e n is .

  • Karen

Just wondering, who made this girl the “African American Culture Cop?” This really pisses me off! I mean really, has this chick done any “real” research on the history of hair braiding, because I have as a student of Fashion Design! Hair braiding can actually be traced back as far as 3100 BCE, with the Egyptians! They would shave their heads balled due to lice, and wear braided wigs for hygienic purposes. They can only trace hair braiding back to the African American Culture to 3500 BC! Furthermore, Native Americans have an extremely intricate culture of hair, hair braiding, and the Native’s relationship to the braided hairstyle remains somewhat a mystery. But it continues almost synonymously with the image one has when thinking of Native American Indians. So please little lady, get over yourself nobody owns hair braiding, let alone you! Move on and get over yourself!

    • Shana

White people never invented hair braiding. You get over yourself.

      • secret87

Maybe they mean lynching. Doesn’t the rope require some form of braiding?

      • Karen

Black people did not invent hair braiding either! So you get over yourself! I have one thing you do not, and that is knowledge! It is my power, I never let it fail me, so please don’t ever tell me to get over myself. Hair braiding has been linked as far back as the Egyptians. Native Americans have a spiritual connection to hair and hair braiding, that is still mysterious to this day! There is no way to date just how far this goes back historically. I am Native American! My point, no one culture owns the right to hair braiding, so don’t try to own something you never can!

  • James Cramer

real white America could care less what you have to say or what kylie does. so sick of blacks trying to school us or cry about thier heritage. you shouldn’t do this or dress like that or talk like this. when is enough, enough???

  • Obbe Haverkamp

Oh, here we go again, white folks are stealing the cultures of pocs. So, white people can’t enjoy gospel music unless they give homage to a variety of social causes. Many white girls look cute in cornrows and even some black women look OK with blond hair. This cultural appropriation nonsense is much like the micro-aggression mentality we have today. Then again is what little celebrities say so important to this country….I suggest all races/ethnic groups get of your arrogant feelings of self importance…

  • Boogaloo2

How is it possible to disagree with a Jenner or a Kardashian, and be wrong?

  • joz molody

I think the Kardashians are gross but why do black people feel they have the right to order white people to speak and do as they please?
Racism in this country is out of control! If a white person dared to say they were “schooling a black person” or accused them of “cultural appropriation” they would be CRUCIFIED. Damn, white people aren’t even permitted pride in their heritage anymore if black people want to stop it in public. What next?

    • Obbe Haverkamp

Jaz: correct…….makes me wonder what cultural appropriation pocs are practicing everyday?

    • Eric

stop with this black people stuff. A few people getting on here and saying this and that is not a representative sample. I think the girl can do whatever she likes and it is not appropriation. If you really want an example of appropriation I would look at when Pat Boone used to do some of the same songs made famous in the black community (Little Richard) and making money because whites would not pay for the exact same thing when created by a black person (also the blues). White pride?! Heritage. You are kidding me right?

    • Sushi Lovers Unite

well they can’t accuse Black people of that lol thats why you or I have never heard of that. Blacks have never had any power to mock and or ridicule them and force our way of life and standards for beauty on them.

    • Courtney Banks

What heritage do white americans have people have?? What culture do they have that hasn’t been appropriated and reused from other cultures?

  • StaHard

Hold up. Aren’t MOST black women paying a TON of money having fake,
European style hair implanted in their heads as a lifestyle choice. That
looks more fake than anything, and these broads are so proud of it too.
Not only do they demonstrate that they are obviously ashamed of their
natural hair texture….but they also realize that they look a lot MORE
attractive with simulated Caucasian features. Really? This is like the
pot calling the kettle BLACK. Just sayin. Sad.

    • Sushi Lovers Unite

do you know what it means to cultural appropriate?

  • lefleuret42

    Culturally tone-deaf.

  • Bry Shonyea

Kylie… Doesn’t have her own identity. She’s a 17 year old white girl that got a lot of cosmetic surgery to look like her Armenian older sister. One day she’s Armenian the next she’s a black female. Personally her sister Kendall is gorgeous just the way she is (she doesn’t look like she had surgery) why is it so hard for her to just.. Be her.. I bet she doesn’t even know who she is.

    • Eric

do you say this to all the sisters with their blond wigs etc? Most 17 year olds don’t have their own identities yet, so what.

      • Bry Shonyea

        O.

      • Guestest

How many black women do you see with blonde wigs? Because i don’t see many. Do you have a problem with Beyonce’ wearing blonde hair 24-7?

        • secret87

Me either. I ser mainly blk hair. Blonde on tv like nene and Beyonce, but real life not really.

    • @ThisisAnointed

      Good point. Well said.

    • Bey Ship

Hey, did you notice that anyone disagreeing with Rue has had their comments deleted? How’s that for diversity? Oh, I get it. Diversity of ways of saying how terrible it is what this Jenner girl did. Let someone come by and say it isn’t that bad and just wait for your comment to be deleted.

  • AdriAnne Bridges

Kylie is a hot mess! I think NO ONE creates a style or fashion that if done with class and for the RIGHT reason Everyone can rock it! Right reason doesn’t include Kylie! When using something to make you think you identify is for all the wrong reasons! Or what you think is attractive to other races is wrong! There was a time lips, ample butts etc were considered unattractive and NOW people are dying literally to get what I was born with! I absolutely would NEVER condone any girl of color or not buying into this scheme of a business! Not one dime! Because nothing Kylie is doing isn’t being done by a thousand other people and of colorK

  • Najwa

I think what she is trying to say is that Kylie should at least invest in giving back to those who are supporting her and Tyga rather then trying to make the next business move off of them. She served Popeye chicken at her event (I take that personal) a weave event at that. Serving mess from the frontline if you ask me. We all have a culture and she last is the importance of that , she’s acting more like what the media portrays us to be rather than what we we really are.

    • Karl Hutchense

“Giving back” is not in that entire narcissistic family’s vocabulary. IF they ever did anything charitable, it would solely be for the tax write off.

    • Pre_Med502

Amen. You said it all and you said it right.

  • Liza Livingston

i think Kylie thinks she rockin with blacks but she isn’t. She making it be popular for her race and still excluding and stealing black girls’ thunder, just like Kim and J.Lo did with the booty!

    • Eric

this is stupid. If a white girl copied an Hispanic girls style, I guarantee that they would not feel that someone had stolen anything from them nor took such offence on here. Similar to the same way that they don’t give a damn when an Hispanic man dates a white woman. They keep it moving and don’t take it personally (self esteem). There are just as many Hispanic men chasing white women as there are black men so don’t be confused. If someone else wearing a hairdo is “stealing your thunder” I feel sorry for you.

      • Sushi Lovers Unite

do you know what cultural appropriation is or nah?

    • Karen

Ok, this is just about the most ignorant thing, I have read, in well, forever! Take a Physical Science course, and enlighten yourself, genetics is genetics, you can’t change these!

      • Pshaw

Kim’s azz is fake. Nothing genetic about it.

    • secret87

Shes rockin it with bm on het back.

  • Sunny

Aside from cultural appropriation, which white people seem to not–or not want to–understand, white girls need to realize that they just look dumb in cornrows. Cornrows, box braids, dreadlocks, dashikis, kimonos, cheongsams, feathered headdresses, etc. You don’t look cool, you don’t cute, and you certainly don’t seem culturally enlightened. You just come off as poseurs.

    • Segi

But black women look great in weave extensions right? Brazilian, Peruvian etc. We need to cut this crap on culture appropriation, ‘cos we are guilty of the same!

      • _a_

Actually, Black women do look amazing in weaves and extensions, as well as braids and afros. Its funny how it works out that way but not the other way around:)

        • Segi

Really?!!! You don’t say. Black women put on blonde, red, wavy and curly 22, 26 inches. And look absolutely fabulous because we are born with and such are styles are part of culture!

          • _a_

I never said anything about being born with any of the things that you listed above. The only thing I said was many black women do (when installed correctly) look good with weaves.

            • nickelbagoffun

I’ll have to somewhat agree w/ Segi. I wouldn’t call it appropriation though. Ridiculous, yes. Black women seem to have this unhealthy fetish with weaves unlike any other group. When installed correctly it can look good. But it looks absolutely crazy to me when I see so many young ladies walking and flinging that stuff around on their head like they need it.

              • _a_

There are clear reasons why some feel the need to wear weave instead of their own hair. If those reasons aren’t obvious to you then idk what to tell you.

                • nickelbagoffun

Nobody needs to wear weave, it’s a choice. And unfortunately a lot of women choose to due to the lack of acceptance of their own hair.

                  • _a_

I never said that people need to. I said that there are reasons why people FEEL the need to.

                    • nickelbagoffun

                      Oh semantics!
The bottom line is a lot of women wear it so much so that it’s become a crutch for wearing your real hair.

                  • pragmatic maxim

Sadly true. Unfortunately Black beauty isn’t celebrated nor reinforced in this society to the degree that white standards are as well as some other races albeit to a lesser degree. I’m sure that it will be argued that I’m looking for validation from white people…but can it at all be a positive thing for Black women…and by proxy for Black people in general when mainstream covets the natural gifts and culture of Black people? Even though their is an undeniable history of whites being culture vultures where Blacks are concerned and oftentimes profiting from it, in a broader sense…..is it also a sign of society embracing the undeniable beauty of Black women and Black culture in general?

                  • DaTruf

Oh my God. You chicks and your rants on hate for weaves. I wear a weave occasionally and it’s not because I hate my hair. I wear one because I like to change up my style. It’s no different than dying it some crazy color. Rarily do I rock a weave, but when I do, it looks fabulous and I have no apologies about it for anyone.Nor do I hate my own hair. Why can’t folks just mind their own damn business. You wear your hair how you choose and let others do the same.

                • Sushi Lovers Unite

Right it seems as though some blacks totally forgot why black women started wearing weaves in the first place.

                  • _a_

They haven’t forgotten. They would just rather cling to their apathy.

                  • What’s the reason? Not trying to be a smarty or rude.

                    • Sushi Lovers Unite

NO I didn’t take it that way lol IMO black women started wearing weaves/ wigs back in the day to assimilate. For me personally it protects my hair from styling damage and over processing.

                • mmmdot

Exactly.

Black women are experiencing FORCED ASSIMILATION for basic survival and ‘professionalism’ in a dominant white ‘culture’ and white corporate America, while stupid racist white bxtches like this are engaging in CULTURAL APPROPRIATION for the purposes of HABITUAL and CONTINUOUS blatant mockery and cultural theft.

                  • SoJustice101

Case and point. I enjoyed your response. I experienced the “forced assimilation” this past week. I went natural over a year ago. Tried new styles and even began to embrace my natural hair. I had an interview last week and in a panic I rushed and put some weave in. I couldn’t risk the possibility of not getting the job because of my hair. Maybe I shouldn’t have done it but people like Kylie Jenner will never understand that dilemma. That constant questioning of how much of myself should I really show.

                    • Misss

I big chopped 2 years ago in September and I wear my fro most of the time and I really like it but I also fear damaging my hair wearing it out all of the time. This summer I am wearing two sewn in weaves, which is a protective style. I say this to say you should not feel embarrassed by your hair but you also should feel no problem wearing a weave if need be. Box braids and all of those twist are also fake hair, idc the texture, fake hair is fake hair. White people created weaves not blacks, so I mean I like Amandla and get where she’s coming from but but Kylie grew up in a house full of weave wearing women.

                    • I completely understand that. My hair is loc’d and I’m in the military so I wear wigs everyday because my natural hair is not in within regulations. The military JUST started allowing ladies to wear TWAs.

                  • _a_

Idk how you have the patience to keep schooling people, because I am tapped out lol. I used to think that everything you just stated was common knowledge, but I guess not.

                    • mmmdot

Lol. Well with some ppl, Idk if I’m exactly schooling them, as much as checking them and putting them in their place for: 1) speaking with authority on subjects they CLEARLY know little to nothing about 2) having the audacity to be hostile, rude, arrogant, and n*sty on top of it. It’s unconscionable. Period. It’s easier for white trash trolls and black ‘male’ trolls (and ALL their acolytes) to get away with saying the most ridiculous, intellectually lazy things imaginable and still have people think they’re right.

I’m actually FED UP with all the trolling whites AND black males who do this. ALL of them engage in collective forgetting and intellectual laziness when it comes to the history and everyday lives of Black women and I’m over it. It’s extremely disrespectful, to say the least. And it’s PARTICULARLY disgusting that they constantly choose Black women’s websites to broadcast their willful ignorance, fragile egos, and entitlement issues.

                    • “intellectually lazy” <—- Perfect verbiage

                  • @ThisisAnointed

                    You’re right but so?
                    Let em have it.
We create all the music, dances, fashion, beauty u name it, we kick off everything and they jack it. So? It’s a natural God given gifts to us, they have to study and get all kinds of surgeries just to copy. Let em have it. What do we do with it? Lol

              • renee

BLACK WOMEN DO NEED TO STICK WITH THEIR OWN HAIR TEXTURE. I AM A BLACK WOMAN AND IF I REMOTELY WANTED TO DO WEAVE OR EXTENTIONS , IT WOULD HAVE TO LOOK LIKE MY REAL HAIR KINKY COARSE AND BEAUTIFUL.

                • Sushi Lovers Unite

why though? why do we all have to do the same thing? or not embrace each other because we have different opinions?

              • Sushi Lovers Unite

While I can’t say that is NOT true (your statement) cause I don’t personally know and hang out with every weave wearing black woman in the world. However I will speak for myself and say I came out of the womb with a fro like Chaka Kahn, and have had long hair my whole life. I wear weaves to make sure I keep that hair I was born with. More self preservation than wishing I was something I am not. I think each woman is different and should not be generalized.

                • nickelbagoffun

Good for you, self-preservation and all. But wouldn’t a protective style achieve the same benefit?

*And back to my original comment, I am solely pointing out the girls that wear the texture of weave that is completely unlike their own.

                  • Sushi Lovers Unite

a weave, if done right is a protective style, cause oh boy if its done wrong will take your hair/edges out! So can braids though, that happened to me before when I was little!

                  • Misss

But with a full sewn in weave with or without a closure or a wig no one knows if its your texture or not

            • Eric

you must be a black woman because me and my boys think that it looks ridiculous. I am not even talking about any of my boys that date white women but we would not date a black woman with 10 inch nails, odd colored hair, weaves, etc. I would rather a woman with a short hair cut then a straight weave which is obviously not accurate to that person’s skin tone (a dark skinned black woman with waist length straight hair).

              • Monique

I am a dark skinned black woman with straight hair that is really long …and it is all natural. Personally I don’t care for weave but it looks good on others when applied professionally. I am offended that you specifically identified dark skinned females cannot have hair to grow to their waist. Hair doesn’t grow according to someone’s skin tone. Ijs

                • Guestest

Thank you! I’m glad you checked him on that skin color BS.

                • secret87

Yup he/she has not been out much. This dark skin girl was born with blue eyes and has no recent white dna anywhere she said.

                • Christina K

You better tell it. Lol- black women can grow long, straight hair. Or straighten their curly hair and wow you with their glorious length. If we couldn’t grow long locks, explain the black dreadlocks that fall down one’s back? Yes, some weaved styles look bad but I’ve seen some that look flawless.

                • Yes!

                • akatsukihana

My mom is dark skinned and she has natural thick wooly waist length hair. What the hell is he talking about?

                • @ThisisAnointed

Yup. I’m the darkest girl I know and I have the longest hair of all the black girls I know so ummmm.

Another question ummm so what about those that rock SHORT weaves? And Afro weaves???
                  We still hate ourselves?

              • lani

OK, wait a minute. I am dark skinned (part Nigerian) with natural 4b/4c hair. My hair falls to my breastbone when straightened and it is continually growing. So, I’m confused by your statement

          • mmmdot

…Since when did cultural appropriation become equivalent to internalized white supremacy i.e. the effects of HUNDREDS of years of violent white supremacist domination, brainwashing, and genocide? Making false equivalencies about two things that SEEM to be similar on the surface but really aren’t alike in the least is ABSURD and UNEDUCATED. This goes DOUBLE for issues that literally have basic human rights implications, like race and racism.

          • mmmdot

“If you do not understand white supremacy (racism) – what it is and how it works – EVERYTHING ELSE YOU KNOW will only CONFUSE you” – Neely Fuller

Read a fxcking book, ignorance. ::Eyeroll::

          • egypt

Actually there are many black people with natural blonde hair Melanesian Blondes – Black People with Natural Blonde Hair, with no relation to whites. Most white women I see with blonde hair dyed their hair.

          • secret87

Where do you live? On the set of Babs?

        • StaHard

I think they look fake and ashamed. It’s definitely not an appealing look to me. And it’s just another expensive habit. Black chicks are too high maintenance, and over rated. Just sayin.

          • Myllee

Interesting comment to make when all Jenners/Kardashian girls/women have fake hair, fake tan, fake body parts, odd hair color, fake nails but yet Kneegrows are still behind them like dogs after a bone.

        • Pataboy

Is that why every swingin black dyk is hooked up or chasin that white stuff? Only the good lookin black chicks got any chance but they’re all with white boys!!!

        • Sindy Nyembe

          U said it

        • RagingNatural

Cultural appropriation and cultural assimilation are two different things. Black women altering their physical appearance to fit into the default of whiteness is NOT the same as white people being praised for traditionally black features or hairstyles when black women are shamed for them. Sociology should really be a required class for people because of comments like this. It’s like somebody crying reverse racism…it ain’t real!!!

          • _a_

Your comment has to be for someone else, because mine had nothing to do with what you’re talking about.

            • RagingNatural

It wasn’t for you…it was for the Segi person. Clearly we are on the same page 🙂

        • Ret2Go

That is a matter of opinion honestly. Not everyone black believes that black women look great in weaves, extensions, braids, and afros. Whether kempt or unkempt, some do not care for it. I personally am not a fan of habitual weave wearers and weave wearers who half do it (the two different textures, the weave that’s been in 3 months too long, etc). No matter how great the install, It’s obvious that it isn’t yours. One has got to wonder, why that is the only hair choice it not for a medical reason.

        • alasia min

no they don’t look amazing in weaves, extensions with braids sure.

        • Tim Aisworth

Yeah, really funny. It’s almost like whatever white people do it will never be enough.

        • @ThisisAnointed

It’s because white hair is too soft for cornrolls. But like Rachel Dolezal her hair was bangin in the Afro.

      • Guestest

I think a lot of black women look great with weave. Real talk, many of them really do. I personally think that white women look weird with braids. Few can pull it off, i guess. Not trying to be mean, just saying.

        • _a_

Lol I just said the same thing. I think its because straight hair is such a generic style/texture its easy for anyone to pull it off.

          • Bob

If God wanted black women to have straight hair he would have given them straight hair. God doesn’t make mistakes. So don’t decive your self and tell your self you look good with a white woman’s hair on your head. Bc you don’t you just look funny.

            • Guestest

A lot of them look fine with ASIAN hair on their heads. Anyway, i sure hope you check other women who wear fake things as well and not just black women. “If God wanted black women to have straight hair he would have given them straight hair.” Do you tell other women that when they curl their straight hair?

      • Sunny

Weaves aren’t cultural appropriation. Long hair isn’t specific to any one culture.

        • Segi

Keep selling yourself that kool aid. I hope it taste good!

        • Brad

          Of course it is.

        • Sushi Lovers Unite

thank you lol why do some black people always have to counter with….. but look at what we do we are no better lol SOOOOOO if black women didn’t wear weaves/black people stopped killing each other Racism would end tomorrow? lol

      • Deven Brown

NO they don’t look great. It looks ridiculous and they haven’t the slightest clue.

        • Sushi Lovers Unite

          in your opinion

      • renee

I am black and a woman!! I DON OT, LET ME REPEAT, “I DO NOT WERE WEAVE!! I AM ALL NATURAL AND PROUD OF IT!!

      • Sushi Lovers Unite

        wearing weave is cultural appropriation?

      • secret87

Not all black women have tight curls, some have those naturally. Even in Africa its all different hair textures to so called white texture. So save it. Also who she talking slang with it? Think about it….for once.

      • pragmatic maxim

Did anyone say ‘blonde-struck’ at that? Coz for some reason even the most ‘pro-Black’ sistahs will find a way to justify having blonde ambition. Sistahs will straight up call themselves a ‘naturalista’ while rocking blonde locs.

Not that I’m cosignng wite girls with braids and locs….I’m just saying tho. My double standard is that I sometimes am guilty of taking their appropriations as a form of flattery (as long as there’s ‘stealing’ or monetary gain… nor minstrel element involved), yet I tend to look at Blacks who appropriate ‘whiteness’ more harshly. Am I the only one guilty of this

      • Christina K

Black women are not sampling ‘white’ culture by wearing weaves. That is not cultural appropriation at all, as we are not attempting to oppress or even exploit other races but rather, enhance on our appearance, for WHATEVER reason. You’d better do some research. If black women use it as a crutch, that’s a whole other issue entirely, having to do with societal norms or expectations and/or insecurity due to white supremacy and Euro-enforced beauty standards. Also, black women grow long hair just fine and can naturally straighten it without chemicals. Not sure what any of that has to do with cultural appropriation but I bet you thought you sounded SO smart with that failure of a comeback.

    • StaHard

Hold up. Aren’t MOST black women paying a TON of money having fake, European style hair implanted in their heads as a lifestyle choice. That looks more fake than anything, and these broads are so proud of it too. Not only do they demonstrate that they are obviously ashamed of their natural hair texture….but they also realize that they look a lot MORE attractive with simulated Caucasian features. Really? This is like the pot calling the kettle BLACK. Just sayin.

      • Sushi Lovers Unite

have you actually had a conversation with a woman who wears a weave and asked her why she does it or are you just assuming?

    • mspls4

I agree the same way a black girl will have blonde hair or red, it is not your culture, your hair is black and should stay black.

      • hernan cortez

Black people have been dying their hair blonde and red with henna since 10,000 bc in east africa, before whites even existed. The practice can still be found in west african and rural east african culture today.

      • Sushi Lovers Unite

okay so if all BW followed your directive and kept their hair “black” then would it be okay to shine a light on cultural appropriation or nah?

    • hernan cortez

White people know EXACTLY what cultural appropriation is and they love doing it against blacks and HATE when blacks do it to them. Ever notice how white people LOVE to throw under the bus black people who “act” white and “Dress” white and who immerse themselves in “white” society? Of course whites don’t say this publicly but it is the reason why they “Gave back” tiger, oj, and a host of other blacks who try to assimilate into white culture. Even before Tiger woods screwed up the reporters made jokes about lynching him, they tried to push him as a “black” role model when he considered himself a role model for everyone (remember everyone is code for white/mainstream). Halle berry gets it too. It is why when a black person “Dresses” white and surrounds them self with white people in a white space they will get a bunch of race jokes and black jokes, even the William sisters are not immune.

White people view this all as cultural appropriation, but to say your stealing white culture would make them look too racist, so instead they say race jokes about you. Its why the black player on the montreal team gets called “The black guy in the middle” in Vancouver newspapers in Canada, instead of pk subban his name.

Now when whites steal black culture, they think it is funny and cute.

    • Eric

that is your opinion which I don’t give much credence to. I am black and Hispanic and there is no patent/copyright on any hairdo out there. Like I am sure many will say what about black girls in blond dye jobs and long straight extensions. Now, to me that looks stupid. I know white girls that do cornrows because they fight (mma) and that is how they fix their hair. No big deal. Don’t make it one.

      • hernan cortez

You are not black but hispanic. Blacks have been dying their hair from 10,000 bc in ancient east africa with henna, that is yellow, before whites existed.

        • Kecia

So you are saying that you cannot be blk and Spanish? That’s news to me because I am blk and Jamaican. I have family who are blk and Italian and also blk and English. Well I will let them know they cannot be both.

          • THE BLACK MAN IS “GOD”

Black is a “crayon” and spain-“ISH” were CONQUERED by THE CONQUISTADORS and they not from “spain”….columbus gave them SL@VE NAMES …I.E. (jamaican, puerto rican, haitians, leo sip africanus, west indians) etc….. “Edomites” RE-NAMED ALL 12 Tribes of JACOB/israel less than 400 years ago….

          • Auturo Montez

Spanish people are white Europeans not black. Black people who speak Spanish are from countries that were enslaved by Spanish people. Black people come from all countries and there are more black people in Spanish speaking countries than in the US.

            • Ralph Malph

When the Moors lived in Spain, they created black Spaniards. This happened before 1492, at which time the Spanish kicked the Moors out.

        • Mimi

“You are not black but hispanic.” Who are you to tell Eric who he is or isn’t? Do you know him? Are you him?

        • Auturo Montez

If you are black you are black and there are millions of black Hispanics in Cuba, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.

        • Ralph Malph

dying with henna is not the same thing as bleaching it blonde.

    • Karen

Says you! Who are you to judge! Honestly, I think African American women who dye their hair blonde look seriously wrong, but I don’t care if they do this, it is their hair, and they have the right to dye their hair blonde, red, or rainbow colors! If you want to stop hating, than it needs to begin with you! Also, posers is spelled as Posers. Get a dictionary, if you feel the need to make an argument, try doing it in a manner that makes you look like you know what your really talking about, and is spelled correctly!

    • Hello

Just like you look ridiculous in straights Brazilian and Korean and white women hair which everybody knows doesnt grow from your scalp. But I have never heard white women complain.

      • Goodbye

I’m not even going to try to understand why some of you are being so obtuse. There are women with long hair in every culture; therefore, wearing weaves wouldn’t be cultural appropriation. White girls rock extensions too. For the record, I don’t care for 24-inch weaves or 10-inch nails either. I just don’t think they’re forms of appropriation.

        • Hello

Does your hair grow out straight from your scalp. Answer me ????. Black women don’t have straight hair like Asians Hispanics and white women simple and short. You can decive your self and keep arguing give me name as an example and don’t tell me about biracial women because they are not black. They are BIRACIAL.

          • jean

just plain ignorant. no, make that stupid. have you ever seen the hair of some Ethiopians and Somalis like Iman and Liya Kebede ? African women from the continent of Africa with not only straight hair but also straight noses. don’t say anything about being Arab either because Arab is not a race. does that answer your question?

      • Cherry Coke

White women wear the same extensions so of course they don’t complain.

        • Hello

Really white women wear hair extensions Atleast it matches their natural hair and nobody can tell the difference unlike black women I see with pin straight hair and curly edges and beed bees in the back. Which just looks funny

          • Cherry Coke

LOL you think all that long luxurious hair they wear is real? Yes white women wear extensions. And they even talk about how it breaks their hair off too. Those horrid Kardashians even have a line. Don’t speak of what you don’t know.

      • Sushi Lovers Unite

white women are not oppressed tho lol its amazing how unbothered you can be about things when you are the dominant race!

    • guy

Aaaaand Black chicks with perfectly straight dirty blonde hair, like white girl wannabe Beyoncé, is natural and “looks good” right? Pffffffffff

HAHAHAH I never said black women shouldn’t be proud you half wit. Now take a seat and listen, child. Hating on white girls for getting braids and what not is completely hypocritical and retarded when there are just as many black women trying to look like white girls with flowing blonde or light hair, like your girl Beyoncé lol. Unless you do not mind being a two faced hypocrite then hate all you want nobody really cares.

          • jean

what’s hypocritical and retarded is for a black man to rush to defend white women at black women’s expense. it is downright crazy considering what racism black men face in this country on a daily basis. instead of turning that anger and hatred inward why don’t you direct it at your oppressor? because you’re too scared, that’s why. your comments have nothing to do with hair and everything to do with severe self-hatred.

            • secret87

Yes black men will save a ww any day. No matter how he is treated by her. Thats why I don’t date bm. Such a sorry race of men.

            • guy

We have a black president with black cabinet. Please continue to tell me how much racism black men have to deal with…… You are an idiot. Go talk to Ben Carson, you know a successful black man who happens to be one of the worlds most accomplished neurosurgeons. Tell him how much racism black men have to deal with and he will call you a sad little man that lacks accountability and personal responsibility. You are too scared to admit black men are not held back as much as you’d like me to believe. I have many successful black friends that would spit in your face for saying that. They would call you a gutless loser.

              • jean

arrogance. who do you think you are to try and talk to me about successful African-Americans? guess what? Ben Carson is not the only black surgeon in America. There are thousands of black Doctors, Surgeons, Lawyers, Scientists and Engineers. just to name a few. We are successful DESPITE racism, not because it doesn’t exist. You have many successful black friends? how many? can you name them? how about just initials? are you black? no ? ok well let’s talk about something you do know about. lets talk about white privilege. let’s talk about how this great nation of ours came to be so wealthy. let’s talk about that wealth being a direct result of hundreds of years of free labor also known as slavery. let’s talk about how all that accumulated wealth years ago led to the white privilege that allows you to make asinine statements today about how and why black people have succeeded in this country. please.

I have had more white women compliment me on my hair when I wear it curly or straight. Don’t be mad because your women have hair like a golden retriever and haven’t embraced conditioner.

      • Sushi Lovers Unite

I’m not natural but I do not want to be a white girl that is a hasty generalization but it seems that you are fine with that and do not want to know what it really is so carry on!

      • secret87

Defend them white women. Lol our men are sorry.

        • Guestest

That might be a white male.

    • Bey Ship

By your logic, I want Darius Rucker to stop singing country music. I want every single black person in the USA to stop playing the piano, wearing 3-piece suits, stop writing movie and TV scripts, stop driving automobiles, stop naming their children with European names, and the list goes on and on. This so-called cultural appropriation is not new in this country or any other! Not by white, nor by any other race.

      • secret87

Learn our history country music was invented by blacks including rock. Whites steal a lot.

        • Bey Ship

You may have me on ONE SINGLE THING I INCLUDED, but you didn’t address anything else. How about giving up playing the musical instruments used in country music that were invented by other races like the electric guitar. Stop performing any Shakespeare plays (except for maybe Othello), stop dancing ballet, stop singing opera. Cultural appropriation is BS.

          • secret87

I don’t sing opera, nor play guitar. Also give us back our drums.

            • Bey Ship

Did you really think I meant you specifically? Well, I didn’t. You can’t have drums back since they were developed independently in various other parts of the world. I would also like you (and any other non-Jewish miner) to stop wearing blue jeans, too. Stop printing magazines and newspapers, too.

    • Simon666

Don’t want to understand. You come off as extremely arrogant trying to tell people what or what not to wear. Imagine if white people said Beyonce can’t do L’Oreal hair commercials with long blond hair. All hell would break loose.

    • secret87

Black men never tell their fantasy women from obese to slim only with you because your rich. That you need to stop. Instead they think its cool they have chicken legs with big fake butts, fuller lips that can’t minic blk full lips so they look crazy, tans looking orange, ect.

    • I attended a weekend class at a community center several years ago. The class was about learning the Swahili language. In walks our teacher, Caucasian, this guy in my class yells out “We cant have sh*t!!” and walked out. Your comment made me think of it. The lady was from Oklahoma and studied the language and “fell in love with it”.

I was able to know how to learn english as a native speaker at Preply and my teacher said it’s important to respect culture.
