News of baseball analyst Darryl Hamilton‘s death rocked the sports world earlier this week. Hamilton, 50, and his ex-girlfriend Monica Jordan, 44, were found dead in Jordan’s Pearland, Texas home on Father’s Day. The former couple’s 14-month-old son, Jaxon Hamilton, was also found in the home, but he was unharmed.

Investigators suspect that Jordan killed Hamilton before turning the gun on herself after he returned their son from a Father’s Day ouyting; however, a motive for the shooting remains unknown. According to Hamilton’s attorney Gary Zimmerman, the former MLB star and Jordan had just reached a custody resolution regarding their son.

“It just doesn’t make sense from that vantage point,” Zimmerman told the Daily News. “There was no tension other than the ordinary tension in that kind of deliberation. There was nothing that rises to the level that would make me think it was possible for her to pull out a gun and shoot someone.”

The pair ended their relationship several months ago for reasons that are unknown at this time. Both Hamilton and Jordan had been married once before and had children from previous relationships. Jordan’s ex-husband, Rohaven Richards, is actually the person who sent police to her home Sunday. According to Richards, he received a frantic call from his ex-wife that afternoon.

“I just got a call from my ex-wife. She was distraught. She asked me to come over there and to call the police,” Richards can be heard telling a 911 dispatcher in audio obtained by NYDN. “I don’t know what’s the matter. I suspect it has something to do with a guy that she’s in a current relationship with, that there’s something going on.”

Richards continues:

“She was asking—they have another child together. She was calling me crying, in desperation, asking me to call the police and to come get him, come get the baby.”

Richards and Jordan’s relationship also included its share of life-threatening situations. In 2008, the licensed attorney pled guilty to felony arson after burning down their marital home in 2006. Brazoria County District Attorney Jeri Yenne said that the fire followed an argument between the then couple after Jordan accused Richards of infidelity.

“The circumstances were severe, the circumstances were very severe,” Yenne told the Houston Chronicle. “I have spoken to my staff every now and then when we’re talking about an arson, I would talk about this case.”

Hamilton’s ex-wife and mother of his two older sons, Ursula Hamilton, says that she is working with relatives of the former Mets player to coordinate funeral arrangements.

“We’re still trying to cope and put it all together,” Hamilton said in a shaky voice. “They’re in shock, I think,” she said of their sons Julian and Donovan. “We’re just leaving a therapist’s office. Just trying to put a few more coping skills into our gloves. We’re doing well — as well as could be expected. They’re very strong, just like their dad. It’s funny how they just stepped right into his position.”

We send our prayers to all of those affected by this tragedy, especially Hamilton’s and Jordan’s children.
