Teen Slammed By Cop After Pool Party Speaks Out After Disturbing Video Goes Viral
Over the weekend, we shared with you the disturbing viral video of a swimsuit-clad black teenager being pulled down to the ground by a cop after a pool party gone awry. Cpl. Eric Casebolt is seen holding her down with both of his knees on her back, making her lie face down in the grass to put handcuffs on her. The young girl’s name is Dajerria Becton, and the 15-year-old said she was invited to the party and was trying to follow the orders of the officer when he grabbed her.
In the video, Becton and friends are ordered to leave the premises multiple times. But all of a sudden, as they’re doing so, Casebolt grabs Becton and brings her down to the ground. She initially resists getting down, so he continuously pushes her face down into the grass as she cries and tells friends to call her mother. He eventually puts his knees into her back and handcuffs her. She stays face down in the grass for the rest of the video.
In an interview with the Dallas Fox affiliate, Becton recounted her ordeal.
“He told me to keep walking, and I kept walking, and I guess he thought we were saying rude stuff to him,” said Becton. “He grabbed me and he twisted my arm on the back of my back. And he shoved me in the grass and started pulling back at my braids. I was telling him could he get off me because my back was hurting really bad.”
Becton, who was not arrested after all, was eventually released to her parents. They felt Casebolt’s behavior was excessive, and Becton wants the officer to pay for what he’s done.
“Him getting fired is not enough.”
Casebolt has been placed on administrative leave as an investigation is done.
What is most disturbing about this whole situation, if you’ve watched the video, which you can see below, is the fact that not only was a gun pulled on teens who tried to come to Becton’s aid, but also that all the young people made to get down on the ground and told to “get your ass out of here!” were black. The young man filming the entire time is white, and he was able to move around and videotape the entire incident close by without being told to get down or being berated by any of the officers. But in contrast, one minute a few of the young black men are speaking calmly to an officer, and the next, Casebolt runs into frame and is pushing them down and telling them to get on the ground.
The unprofessionalism here is extremely disturbing and proves that as always, black youth don’t receive the same treatment or respect from law enforcement as their peers. And all this over foolishness at a pool party. Lord, help us.
