Students’ chosen from 12 historically black colleges and universities are relishing in an opportunity to travel to South Africa later this month. Coca-Cola ran their annual “Open Happiness Tour,” a video contest where 21 students were chosen as part of a sponsorship program to visit the motherland nation.

The program which was developed by the first FIFA World Cup (TM) held in Africa this year, met with Coca-Cola to invite its winners to join in the sporting event for its global Coca-Cola RAIN “Water for Schools” initiative to assist the needs of schoolchildren in Africa and around the world.

On June 25, the attendees from Clark Atlanta University, Florida A&M University, and Grambling State University, will head to South Africa for five days and adapt to the African culture and learn about the water crisis. They will also meet with executives of the Coca-Cola South Africa to discuss the project’s initiatives in eliminating HIV/AIDS and malaria in poverty-stricken areas, promote education, jobs and humanitarian awareness. One of the highlights of the trip will take them through the Nelson Mandela National Museum, a Safari, and a ticket to the FIFA World Cup match.

The Open Happiness Tour allows Coca-Cola the opportunity to engage and inspire young African Americans while connecting them with their roots,” said Yolanda White, assistant vice president of African American Marketing, Coca-Cola North America.
