For most women, asking another woman for a tampon can be embarrassing. What’s worse is not getting one because she doesn’t have. Now you’re getting creative about how to stop your cycle from leaking onto your clothes.

One teenager, José Garcia, believes men should stand by women and carry extra tampons and pads in their bags just case a woman needs them. Garcia, a tenth grader in Miami, told Buzzfeed News that his male friends treat menstruation as though it is “repulsive.” Because of their attitudes, many of Garcia’s female friends are embarrassed about their menstrual cycle.

Garcia believes his male friends have immature attitudes and decided to start carrying tampons and pads in his book bag after hearing about the ways his female friends tried to stop their cycles from leaking onto their clothes. Garcia also launched a movement for his cause by uploading a photo on Instagram with the hashtag #realmensupportwomen.

Garcia posted his picture in March but it didn’t create a stir until his classmate re-posted it on Twitter, making his campaign go viral. Even the feminine hygiene product brand, Kotex took noticed and created an advertising campaign for #realmensupportwomen.

Although Garcia received negative feedback for his campaign, he believes he can help end the taboo that men associate with menstruation.

Would you want your teen son or male partner to carry tampons/pads in his bag for women?
