Pregnancy Etiquette for Family, Friends and the Mama to Be

May 21st, 2011 - By Toya Sharee

Pregnancy is one of those events in life that is as fascinating as it is frightful, exciting as it is exhausting and as stimulating as it is stressful. For those of us who have the honor of being in the presence of a pregnancy, there are some things that we can do to ease the stress and tension on the expectant mother so that we don’t fall victim to her pre-natal wrath (well, at least not a lot).  At the same time, it is important for women who are with-child to understand that there are some things you should be mindful of to make sure that friends and family can provide their support and share in your joy without feeling like your pregnancy is taking over their entire lives. Take a peek at a few of our pointers in pregnancy etiquette:

I have one to add to this: It's totally rude to ask "Are they natural or did you have in vitro?" when a pregnant woman tells you she's having twins

Number 11 sounds so bitter. I wonder if the author of this article is childless herself.

This article is just really bitter.

WRONG! A childless person should NEVER try to give a parent advice. Being an aunty, big sister who raised her siblings, etc is NOT the same. Just as being a live-in girlfriend for 10 years isn't the same as being married and a single person should NEVER try to counsel someone on marriage.

I find #11 to be completely disrespectful. Believe it or not childfree people can see things that clouds a parents mind. Their opinion is valuable becuase they are usually aunts & uncles who if they were black usually had a burden placed on them when KiKi decided to have the baby, and didn’t think things through. Not everyone is childless motherhood haters.
