Paula Patton and her Russian Looking Baby

Recently “Jumping The Broom” star Paula Patton sat down with late night talk show host Chelsea Handler. They chatted for a bit before the conversation turned to her year old son Julian. As many of you may know Paula’s husband is the vanilla R&B singer Robin Thicke. Chelsea asked Patton if the baby looked like her.

Patton responded by saying he looks exactly like his dad, but with blond hair and blue eyes. “Everybody’s like, did you have anything to do with this? They think we like adopted a Russian child…and everyday I’m like he’s gonna get blacker, no look,” she said pretending to point at her baby’s arm.

Chelsea then joked that people could mistake Paula for the nanny. We all know Chelsea is a fool and is liable to say anything. So while I believe it was all jokes, an AOL Black Voices writer thinks that Chelsea might have hit a nerve.

    I’m mixed race and always get mistaken for the nanny when I walk around with my white cousins. Chelsea was joking about other people’s racism and the assumption that minorities are the hired help. Realistically speaking though, African-Americans have been marginalized and limited to many educational opportunities and really do work as domestics. Paula Patton is mixed and her black father was a lawyer. Patton embodies beauty and class and any racist who mistakes her for the nanny is a freaking idiot, but like Chelsea said, they exist.

    Can we not take a joke? Chelsea Handler is a comedienne. She was joking!! It is ok to laugh and yes, even at ourselves. Paula Patton is bi-racial and her husband is caucasian. Not a real mystery as to how her child could be so fair skinned. Get a grip.

    BTW Paula Patton is bi-racial herself, her mother is white, therefore her son is 3 quarters white and 1 quarter black.

    People stope being so sensitive. She is half-black, half white. The white genes from Robin Thicke and her half white side dominated the physical makeup of their son…get over it. If I didn't know who she was, I'd too probably assume she was the nanny based on what I see here in NYC…

      Thank you…MIXED is not BLACK. BLACK is an identity this child cannot have yet, therefore he's MIXED til he picks a side. WHITE is his skin color, not an identity. MIXED is his race. NOT BLACK. One mixed and one white does not = black.

        So, white is a skin color and black is an identity……..lol. You made a funny! Mixed is not a race either, more like an identity. If that were the case we would all classify as mixed, if we truly broke it down by DNA and not phenotype dominance. Technically, if we want to go further, according to the National Origins Act of 1924, he would be classified as black, given his mothers racial makeup. Remember black people didn't make these rules, so get mad at those who did. Nevertheless, I don't care what he self-identifies with, as long as it makes him happy!

    People…get real! Too sensitive. Both my husband and I are black and our daughter is Julian's complexion with light brown hair. He jokes with me all the time about people thinking I am her nanny, cuz he's fairer skinned than me but still black. I think it's funny cuz people do think that. Even though we have many shades of color to us. Now what was rude as hell was when she was born and the nurse, jokingly, said I musta been foolin around with the milkman. My husband was about to strangle her.

    Somewhere in his or her blood line some one had blond hair and blue eyes. My great great grandmother was Native American and it showed up in my cousin and my daughter. So people should stop being so RUDE and nosey.

    When that boy grows up and marries a white woman ALL evidence of blackness will be permanently erased from Paula Patton's future descendants. Unfortunately, many black people will view that as "racial progress".

    I doubt that Patton who married her high schol sweetheart, Robin Thicke, is really concerned about her son "looking like a russian". Handler's show is notorious for being edgy and Patton obviously thought that it would be funny to say what she said.

    In New York , especially upper Manhattan, it is very common to see white children being cared for and holding hands with black women or Hispanic women, and they are indeed the nannies. For Handler to joke about Patton being her own child's nanny as a black woman,….to me seems a bit offensive. I don't know if I would call it racist,…ok maybe it was racist. It's a strong comment and steeped in so much unfortunate truth.

I dont even know you, and Im 100% positive that she can walk up you on one side, and walk down your other!!! Im Also sure her child LOOKS better than yours! Chelsea is ignorant but funny, and WE all know she's a whoe so who cares what she thinks! Its called sarcasm, and when you know who you are the "little" things that people say become Irrelevant, sort of like your dumb azz comment! Toodles idiot!
