Hillary Clinton Announces 2016 Presidential Bid Like A Boss
After two years of speculation, Hillary Rodham Clinton formally announced her 2016 presidential bid Sunday. Of course, most (if not all) of us saw this coming from a mile away—making it one of Washington’s worst kept secrets, but it was still quite exciting to witness the formal announcement.
Although journalists huddled around her Brooklyn-based headquarters for hours waiting for word an official word from the former First Lady’s people, Clinton circumvented them all by making her announcement on social media—nearly three hours later than the time most folks were led to believe that she would be confirming her second attempt to earn that coveted seat in the Oval Office. Clinton’s digital strategist even mocked reporters on Twitter at noon. It’s safe to say that most didn’t share in his humor.
The former Secretary of State made her announcement via Twitter and YouTube. The tweet simply read:
“I’m running for president. Everyday Americans need a champion, and I want to be that champion. –H.”
While her YouTube announcement, which came in the form of a video titled “Getting Started” was a bit more detailed. In the video, everyday Americans shared about getting started on current and future plans, which included goals as great as starting a new business and as small as getting the dog to stop eating the trash. Towards the end, Hillary appears.
“I’m getting ready to do something too. I’m running for president,” she announces. “Americans have fought their way back from tough economic times, but the deck is still stacked in favor of those at the top. Everyday Americans need a champion and I want to be that champion, so that you can do more than just get by—you can get ahead and stay head.”
