When it was revealed that at least part of Mo’Nique’s issue with Lee Daniels and Lionsgate stemmed from her refusal to attend the Cannes Film Festival, the actress explained that she declined because she hoped to utilize the downtime to hang out with her family. While many found her explanation to be a cop out or an excuse for not handling her business, it seems that she truly may have had her reasons.

In an upcoming primetime special with TV One, the Blackbird actress will open up about the price she’s had to pay for fame. According to the wife and mother, the majority of the causalities occurred under her own roof.

“This is my third marriage. [With] the first two marriages, I was chasing [fame] and really didn’t understand what it is to be a wife,” she explained during the special, which was filmed in Atlanta.

Years ago, Mo and her current husband Sidney Hicks became a headline favorite after the actress revealed that they had an open marriage; however, in 2013 she confessed that this particular way of living was a thing of the past for them and that they had decided to proceed in a monogamous relationship.

“I thought I was saying to women you can enjoy your cake and eat it too. It backfired. Now that I understand what I have, baby listen, there’s not another man on the face of this earth that can compare to mine,” she said at the time.

Fortunately, she was able to get things right with Sidney. However, her relationship with her eldest son, Shalon Jackson, is still reeling from the effects of her former lifestyle.

“Now that my son is 25, we have a very strained relationship because during that time when he was a little boy I was out chasing, so my prayer was ‘please give me another chance,’” she told TV One.

Mo’s interview is scheduled to air on TV One on Sunday, March 22 at 10 pm ET. Will you be tuning in?
