Kerry Washington To Play Anita Hill In New HBO Film
We have good news for you this Thursday evening. As we anticipate tonight’s episode of “Scandal,” The Hollywood Reporter just confirmed that we’ll be seeing Ms. Washington take off the white hat for her new role in an HBO film about Anita Hill.
According to THR, Kerry will star as Anita Hill and executive produce the TV movie.
The film, called Confirmation, is being promoted as a tele pic that will detail the salacious 1991 Supreme Court nomination hearing of Clarence Thomas. You may remember Hill famously testified during those hearings, claiming that Thomas had sexually assaulted her when he was her supervisor at the Department of Education and the EEOC.
Hill’s testimony forever changed the way in which the country viewed sexual harassment, victim’s rights and even race relations in this country.
The script for the film will be written by Susannah Grant, the woman who wrote Erin Brockovich. Grant will also executive produce. Rick Famuyiwa, the man behind Dope and The Wood is in talks to direct the film but there is no deal in place at this time.
Anita Hill, today, is a professor of social policy, law and women’s studies at Brandeis.
