Beyoncé’s Backup Singer Battling Esophageal Cancer
Singer Tiffany Monique Riddick, who is one third of Beyoncé’s amazing trio of background vocalists The Mamas, has been diagnosed with early-stage esophageal cancer. Bey recently took to her website to send well wishes to Tiffany, who has been a part of her dedicated team since 2007.
“We love you Tiffany. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
According to Tiffany’s website, she was diagnosed in January. The tumor on her esophagus was first discovered after she’d experienced a period of gastrointestinal issues.
“After over a year of ignoring signs, added complications landed me into the gastroenterologist’s office. An endoscopy that he performed (looking for the gallbladder) revealed that I had a tumor in my esophagus,” she explained. “In January 2015, after more ultrasounds, CT Scans, PET/CT scans and ‘oscopies’ than I could count – as well as months of consulting with a collection of over 20 physicians including gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, medical and surgical oncologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, pulmonologists and naturopaths, I was diagnosed with early-stage esophageal cancer.”
She went on to say that she hopes her story will inspire others to take charge of their health.
“I’ve shared this experience with you in hope that it will inspire you to take care of yourself NOW. Don’t wait for a doctor or biopsy to tell you that you are heading down the wrong path. Look at the big picture when it comes to deciding how you will live your life and what you will expose yourself to.”
The songbird, who was recently hospitalized, has been providing health updates to friends, family and fans since the beginning of March through Facebook and Instagram. From the looks of it, she has been leaning on her faith during this difficult time.
We send our prayers to this beauty and we’re wishing her a swift recovery as well.
