They Destroyed My Character: Nicci Gilbert Talks Lawsuit Against ‘R&B Divas’ Production Company + Producer Responds
Nicci Gilbert has not been shy about sharing the fact that she was not happy about the way things went down with TV One and the production company behind “R&B Divas Atlanta,” Think Factory Media. As recently as this week, the former R&B Diva, made it known that she does not like the way Think Factory played her out with the “R&B Divas” franchise contractually. And she said she is still in litigation with them.
This is not necessarily a new story. It’s just getting fresh legs because the rumors that “R&B Divas Atlanta” was being canceled started to surface this week.
Here’s what she said via her Instagram page.
But she didn’t stop with that caption. When her followers asked questions, she answered them, in detail.Source: Instagram Source: Instagram
Since she mentioned Phil Thornton by name, and since these two have been going at it for some time now, it was only a matter of time before he stepped forward. And though Thornton spoke to us earlier this week, saying that there was no hardcore evidence proving that the show was being nixed; he came forward once again, to address Nicci’s comments, her pending lawsuit against the production company and the drama.
Here’s what he said when he spoke to The Jasmine Brand:
What does he think about Nicci Gilbert’s issue with him?
“I don’t care! I’ve done shows and films since R&B Divas. No one else I’ve worked with has an issue with me. I was the person that sold what was an idea for her and made it a reality. I gave her money out of my own fee to basically accommodate and up her producer fee. Faith was making significantly more because of who she is. Nicci’s fee did not match that. Nicci was upset. Myself and my partner said, ‘Instead of bumping our fee, give that money to Nicci Gilbert’. Tell that part! I don’t worry about what her feelings and her thoughts are of me because I’ve done right by her.”
The drama that Nicci brought
The direction that Nicci turned the show. If you look at the drama and conflict in season 1 and season 2, it was mostly by one individual. We removed that individual. It was so dramatic, it was so negative, but it was coming from primarily one individual who was coincidentally an executive producer on the show, so go figure. Her antics were not instigated by that of myself or the rest of the production team. Everyone wants to blame…it’s production, it’s production. No, it was actually you! Tell the whole story. You did that. Tell the whole story! That wasn’t production instigated. That was you!
So was Nicci fired?
I had no desire and have no desire to work with Nicci again so, you call it what you want, fired, quit at the same time…me and everyone collectively knew it was time to move on. I don’t really give a damn how she felt. I knew what I couldn’t be a part of and it was that foolery and that energy that she brought. It was very negative, it was very disrespectful to everybody involved. I saw it first hand. It wasn’t a good time and it carried over to the show
On Nicci’s lawsuit
I’m sure I’m referenced at some point, but if I keep seeing slanderous comments there’ll be another lawsuit.
What do you think about all of this? What I will say, is that Nicci should really tred lightly name dropping with hashtags and all. That won’t look too good in court.
