It may not be Thursday, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good throwback!

Nicki Minaj is currently the queen of hip-hop, but before she was dropping the Pinkprint, Onika Maraj was hoping to be a big star by going another route: acting. She was a student at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan and was studying theater.

When Minaj’s acting career didn’t really take off like she had hoped (Minaj did do work on an off-Broadway show called In Case You Forget), the “Anaconda” rapper wound up doing small jobs here and there. She eventually chose to focus on her music and after releasing multiple mixtapes, was signed by Lil Wayne and Young Money Entertainment. Despite all her musical success, Minaj was more than happy to flex her acting chops again in her first film role, playing Lydia in The Other Woman.

Yes, Minaj has come a long way since reciting lines at LaGuardia High School years ago. In today’s throwback clip, a young Onika is rehearsing her lines with a classmate before taking the stage to perform for agents and casting directors she was hoping to impress. While reciting her lines, things get a little bit too intense…
