Baby Fever: Celebs Ready To Become Mothers
Becoming a mother can be one of the most tiring yet rewarding things a woman could ever do. These celebrity women have expressed their desire to step into the world of motherhood by birthing or adopting a child and we wonder if 2015 might be the year they do so.
Since emerging as a rapper in her late teens, Queen Latifah has taken on a lot of roles and job titles in her career but there’s one that has always eluded her: mother. Now that her talk show is coming to an end, the award-winning actress has opened up about her desire to have a child again. “I’m always thinking about [becoming a mother]. Hopefully one day it will be my blessing,” Queen Latifah said. “Being a mom is probably the most unselfish thing you can do.”
Tyra Banks conquered the world of modeling before moving on to start her own empire. In addition to being a best-selling author and talk show host, Banks brought “America’s Next Top Model” to the television screen and it ended up becoming an international sensation in more than 170 countries and regions. But the supermodel told “Harper’s Bazaar” Singapore that she wouldn’t feel complete until she became a mother. “I want to have kids and I think it needs to happen very soon,” the supermodel said. “I feel like I was born to be the experiment of the definition of beauty and to be a mother. It’s something I have to do. I won’t be happy if I’m not a mother.”
Kenya Moore joined “Real Housewives of Atlanta” a couple seasons ago to spice up the show and although she immediately stirred things up with her fellow castmates, Moore’s screen time also turned personal. The former beauty queen opened up on numerous occasions about her desire to get married and have children. Cameras even followed Moore to a fertility clinic as she weighed her options on having a baby without a partner. Phaedra Parks and Porsha Williams have both teased and taunted Moore on the show because she wants to become a mother but has yet to have any children.
Nicki Minaj just released her third album and although she is currently on the promo trail for “The Pinkprint,” she definitely has baby on the brain. A few weeks ago, Minaj revealed that she would like to become a mother by the time she puts out her fifth album and on her recent appearance on “Ellen,” she joked about wanting a cute, little fat baby. Minaj also posted a picture on her IG page of her holding a baby with the caption, “I want one!”
It was no secret that Khloe Kardashian desperately wanted to have Lamar Odom’s baby. Before she went to court to file for a divorce from the NBA baller, the couple was actively trying to get pregnant. Even though their four-year union ended, Khloe is still determined to find love and become a mom. During the summer when her romance with rapper French Montana was in high gear, rumors swirled around that Khloe wanted to have his baby. However, a family source said the couple was just having fun but Khloe still sees herself getting married and becoming a mother in the future.
From the start, Gabrielle Union had a plan to focus on her career before settling down to have a family. And it looks like she’s ready to move to on to stage two. “I always knew I was going to wait really long, and I followed the Halle Berry example, and I think in the next couple of years, if I’m lucky, I will make that a reality, hopefully,” the “Being Mary Jane” star said late last year before tying the knot to NBA superstar Dwyane Wade. “I think with the career, the industry that we’re in, it’s not taboo to be an older mom. You’re not alone. There’s such a huge support to start a family a little bit older and it’s okay!”
Several years ago, Sandy Denton, otherwise known as Pepa of Salt-N-Pepa, and a couple of her friends starred on a reality show while testing the dating scene in New York. Jacque Reid was one of the friends and the former “BET Nightly News” anchor was not only ready to settle down but she was also eager to become a mother. “I’m a Christian woman and I really want to do things the right way,” she said. “For me, that means being married, first. I’ve been trying to find a husband to share my life and have children with, but as I explain on the show, my doctor said, ‘You need to start thinking about putting [conceiving] on the front burner.’”
Rosario Dawson’s stepfather adopted her and she always felt like she would adopt a child of her own. “That idea has stayed in the back of my head, but lately, I’ve been thinking about it more,” Dawson said. “My mother and grandmother are extraordinary women, and they’re getting older. It struck me recently that one day I might be sitting around with my children, going ‘Your grandma was an amazing woman; I really wish you could’ve known her.’ That makes me sad ’cause it would be a waste to not have these people know each other. Whatever time I have, I want it.” And it looks like her dreams have come true because just a few weeks ago, the “Top Five” actress adopted a 12-year-old girl.
Vivica A. Fox
We’ve watched Vivica A. Fox come up in Hollywood and she has done a lot. But there’s one thing that she’s never been able to accomplish. A few months ago, Fox sat down with Oprah Winfrey as part of her “Where Are They Now” episode and the “Kill Bill” actress confessed that her biggest regret was never having any children. “I’ll never forget seeing Halle on the red carpet and she’d just had Nahla,” said Fox. “And I said, ‘Wow she so beautiful.’ She said, ‘Vivica if I knew then what I know now I would’ve had 5 of them.’ And she said the joy I see in her eyes is just like no other high that I’ve ever experienced so I don’t get to see my eyes in a child.”
Kandi Burruss is already a mother but after recently marrying her husband Todd Tucker, the reality show star is ready to have another little bundle of joy around the house. And because she’s older the second time around, she and her new hubby may go to the doctor for a little help. “I want to get pregnant this year!” she told “In Touch” magazine. “Knock it out by 39! Todd would be down with [fertility treatments], too. We’re even open to in vitro fertilization.”
