Not Enough Love: 10 Underrated Artists

March 30th, 2011 - By Veronica Wells

Van Hunt

You’ve probably heard of Mr. Hunt, his music has been featured on a few soundtracks and his video “Down Here in Hell” got mad air time on BET, this talented guitarist and singer should get way more love from the music industry and the general public. His music fluctuates between hypnotic and heavy to light and carefree. And to add just even more substance his lyrics are superb. One of my favorite lines from Van Hunt came in his song, “Character“. He says: “You wanted to draw a picture but your relationship could never hold a pose. You’re left with a room full of sketches that only hint at the love you wanted to know.” Whew! It’s like that ya’ll.

I got the Alice Smith album after reading this and I really like it! I'm usually not into jazzy or even neo-soul music but it's a really good mixture of soul and pop. Thanks!

I'm familliar with everyone but Panacea – and I have to say If you don't have a rhapsody account, I'm telling you it's the best $10 I pay every month. Now that they have an app for my blackberry I created playlists for every occasion (bus ride home, workout, sad, happy). Do yourself a favor and check it out! my friends say I'm a walking advertisement for rhapsody and netflix. lol

Miguel. “Sure Thing” is a hit, slowly getting rotation. The entire cd is a jam. Also, Ryan Leslie. I’d also like to suggest stepping outside of your comfort zone musically. Different genres have the ability to tap into places you’ve never explored. Jazz, rock, classic rock, alternative. Music is truly a universal language, no matter how it is interepreted.

I LOVE THIS ARTICLE!!! Its a great start to a loooong list of great artist who are undergound and overlooked. Like all the post before mine I have a suggestion or two to add to this list and your listening, Anthony David, has the raspy voice similar to Anthony Hamilton and the soul touching lyrics of India. Irie. An a must listen is Jesse Boykins III! THIS DUDE IS KILLIN IT FORREAL!!!!!!! He has this smooth delicate yet strong voice, and his lyrical word play is outta this world!!! This boy is AWESOME!!! check him out on youtube, you wont be disapointed I promise!!!

Check for Algrebra Blessett and Anthony David (these 2 have a beautiful song together). I love Eric Roberson and Emily King (so under-rated) – that girl can sing. There were a few on the list I was not aware of.
