Softer, Smoother and Completely Organic: An Alternative to Keratin Treatments

April 5, 2011  |

Zerran International’s ReaLisse™ Hair Smoothing Treatment is the first to pass dermatological testing without any adverse effects. The patented product is formulated without keratin or other animal products and contains no formaldehyde, aldehydes, thioglycolates, sodium hydroxide, guanidine hydroxide, methylene glycol, formol, formalin, ethers, or any other substance that produces formaldehyde gas upon heating with a flatiron. In fact, it is 100 percent vegan—meaning there are no health risks and virtually no chance of your hair falling out.

As a natural girl who loves her curls but would like to reduce frizz and ease manageability, I decided to try it out at Enyia Anise Beauty Bar in Atlanta, Georgia, one of the first salons in the country to offer the Zerran ReaLisse™ Hair Smoothing Treatment. I was educated on the product and provided with after-care reading material. They also carry everything you need to continue seeing the best results at home.

The stylist, who has significant experience applying keratin treatments onto ethnic hair, and I were both taken by the results. In comparison to keratin treatments, my hair was instantly softer, smoother and shinier. A week later, after the first wash, my hair was still just as soft, shiny and smooth as the day I left the salon. My curls were also slightly looser after air-drying. All of these results occurred without the help of any additional products.

Be prepared to spend; it is a little pricey at $200 with the much needed shampoo, leave-in conditioner and masque tacking on another $100. However, if you have it, it is well worth the cost. I don’t need Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding anymore but it looks even better now when I decide to use it. The treatment does not negatively affect color-treated hair and it is perfectly safe to have your hair color-treated afterward.

Overall, I am very happy with my hair and plan to visit Enyia Anise Beauty Bar in 2-4 months to get the treatment again.

I’m live in NYC. There is no hair salon in NYC listed as Zerran ReaLisse providers. The closest are in NJ. I wouldn’t want to try the Coppola treatment if the Zerran ReaLisse would work just as well on my 4a hair. I also want to know what’s in because we were told so much about what it doesn’t contain. I want softer curls and less reversion when I choose to straighten it. I love variation. @ Enyla do you have any salon recommendation in NJ?

this article explains a lot of what this product does not contain, but it says nothing about what it actually *is*, what are the ingredients or at least the main ingredients? what are the mechanisms used to cause *smoothing*? Vegan only means no animal or animal by products it has no bearing on safety. Part of being natural to me, means understanding what I allow into and on my hair and body. This article doesnt help address that question, remember brazilian treatments were simply not relaxers before the whole formaldehyde issue surfaced.

    • if you have a fax machine i will be more than happy to fax you an ingredients list!!

If you don't want to spend an arm and a leg for one of these treatments, there is a wonderful protein treatment that you can purchase at any beauty supply store. It really makes your hair more manageable. Its called Aphogee Two-Step Protein Treatment. I would also recommend getting the Balancing Moisturizer from Aphogee as well. Here's another great hair article about natural ways to care for your hair:…. Mentions using ginger in your hair. It works.

  • We would give "anyone" a free consultation; we do both Coppola & Zerran its all about options for our clients!

I have 4a coarse texture hair. I went to the website and it only seemed to feature women of mostly mixed ethnicity. I wanted to know do you think it can work for my hair? I am considering the Coppola Keratin Treatment.

Do your research before using this product. CBS did a special report on it and its effects. I’m no saying its bad, just don’t go in blind. RESEARCH!

No thank you, love my curls. No heat all day. I'm pretty sure when doing this treatment it requires that the client go under the dryer. Besides the straight look doesn't amuse me.

    • I actually did not go under the dryer. She used a flat iron for sealing. Even if a little heat deters you from the treatment, I recommend the basic maintenance products. So far they have left my hair soft, silky and full of moisture.

  • Keratin hair treatment is very good it makes hair soft ,shiny and silky.

How did your hair look when you styled it natural? I've had the La Braziliana Keratin Treatment and when I wore my hair natural, my curl pattern was not the same at all! Please let me know!

    • My curl pattern wasn't compromised at all. It's slightly looser and I don't have to put anything in it to avoid frizz. My curls are also softer.
