Chika Unigwe, a Nigerian author, is releasing her debut work in the United States. Her novel, “On Black Sisters Street” details the lives of four women who leave their African homes to find a better life in Belgium. But once they get there they’re trapped into making a living, working as prostitutes.
Unigwe who lives in Belgium did years of extensive research in preparation for the novel, including dressing in thigh-high boots and risque clothing, to perfect the details of her story.
This mother, wife and now author spoke with Black Voices recently about the novel and her writing process.
