MadameNoire Introduces Its First Annual Selection Of MN BOSSES

October 1, 2014  |

MadameNoire is proud to announce MN Bosses, a month-long digital event highlighting eight outstanding Black women who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in their respective fields during the past year.

Featuring high-impact women such as actress and television personality Keke Palmer, First Lady of New York Chirlane McCray, acclaimed Belle director Amma Asante, and other exceptional female icons, MN Bosses aims to inspire with interviews detailing the triumphs and challenges of their careers.

In addition, MadameNoire will pay homage to honorary “Boss” Karyn Washington, the late founder of the blog For Brown Girls, who, through her commitment to combating colorism and promoting self-love, exalted Black female entrepreneurs.

“The women selected for our inaugural MN Bosses feature are shining examples of the fine work and exemplary contributions that women in general, and Black women specifically, are making to culture and society,” said Tonya Garcia, Business Editor of MadameNoire. “It’s hard to choose just eight, but we’re proud of and excited by this select group. We look forward to 2015 when we can honor another eight Bosses.”

Throughout October, MadameNoire will present MN Bosses as a special section to honor Black women thriving in business, academics, entertainment, beauty, film, politics, media, and the nonprofit sector. Honorees were chosen based on the boss moves they made in the current year, such as launching new business ventures/initiatives, critical acclaim regarding notable projects, and their overall commitment to excellence in their lines of work.

Further, MadameNoire will celebrate October as Women’s Small Business Month by including feature stories, essays, and profiles on Bosses building independent brands. With its spotlight on African-American leaders making bold strides across various industries, MN Bosses kicks off a yearly tradition of praising Black women who mean business.
