Writer Roxane Gay To Head Up New Women’s Site, The Butter
There’s a new women’s site coming to the Internet, and it will be part of a growing network of women’s sites, so let’s all get excited.
The Toast, which launched 15 months ago, will add The Butter to its network when it launches on October 15. (It was either going to be The Butter or The Jelly, LOL.) It will be led by Roxane Gay who starts on that day, which is also her birthday. “The Butter will focus on cultural criticism and personal essays that make readers think and feel,” Gay told Capital New York.
The site will start within The Toast before moving to its own domain.
Gay is a New York Times bestselling author, whose most recent book is Bad Feminist. Her previous work includes An Untamed State and Ayiti along with a number of collections and articles published in magazines like Glamour and Oxford American. She has another book coming in 2016, Hunger, and she’s working on a number of forthcoming collections. She’s also a professor at Perdue, living in Indiana.
Both sites will be owned by Manderlay LLC. Gay will have full say on editorial content, along with a freelance budget to work with, but hold off on your pitches for now.
Publisher Nick Pavich says these two sites should actually become part of an even bigger network. So more great content will be coming your way.
