Congressional Candidate: ‘Bus Inner-City Black Teens to Work Farm Fields’

March 17th, 2011 - By Demetria Irwin

Jack Davis,  a republican Congressional hopeful from the western part of New York state, has an idea that he thinks will solve illegal immigration issues and address black teen unemployment. His ingenius solution? Deport illegal immigrants and bus inner-city black kids to rural areas to work farms. Ummm, yeah.

The Republican party has now endorsed Davis’ rival. According to AOL Black Voices, Amherst GOP Chairman Marshall Wood had this to say about Davis’ comments: “Maybe in 1860 that might have been seen by some as an appropriate comment, but not now.” Basically.

This is 2011, right? Okay, just checking.

Qui..amen!!! It could have been better worded but I’m not opposed to the idea..better than them robbing my house

Here is the full quote: "We have a huge unemployment problem with black youth in our cities. Put them on buses, take them out there [to the farms] and pay them a decent wage; they will work."

While I can understand how the idea could have been better worded and therefore offensive, I fail to see why this concept is so horrible to people. Unemployement in the urban black community is extremely high, why not pay folks a decent wage, learns some skills as opposed to sitting around doing nothing…and getting into trouble.
