A jury is set to hear opening statements in the second trial of a Detroit police officer who fatally shot a 7-year-old girl during a frantic search for a murder suspect.

Lawyers and Wayne County Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway picked the jury Wednesday. Jurors were asked about race and the recent shooting of an unarmed black 18-year-old by a white officer in Ferguson, Missouri.

Officer Joseph Weekley is white, and Aiyana Stanley-Jones was black. Jurors agree that race and the Ferguson shooting are irrelevant in the Detroit trial.

Unfortunately to many blacks are satisfied with being enablers..This particular case very tragic, feel bad for the family

I am a Detroit resident and I remember this case …I feel bad for both child and officer. Aiyana was minding her business sound asleep. The officer was doing his job trying to get these criminals off the street. Both lives are now ruined. What kills me about the whole situtuation is why were the adults in her family knowingly harboring a known fugitive. They police department surveryed the house for weeks and days prior to the raid to make sure their were no chidlren living at the residence. I see too many cases like this in my city. Too many chidlren or innoncent people being killed because of being at the wrong place at the wrong time and being related to shady people.

I vividly remember this case , Firstly the wanted man was upstairs in a separate apartment. Also typically when cops know where the suspect is a little surveillance and sitting on the house trailing him could have led to his arrest but I guess that wasn’t dramatic enough so they went with the over kill shock and awe for TV ratings and now a 7 yr is dead . this is basically state sanctioned domestic terrorism

Mitigated. They had access to the building plans, but someone had done unapproved modifications to the internal structure. Had these been properly reported, they wouldn’t have entered where they did.

There were toys on the lawn they knew there were children present plus they went in in the dead of night .more than one senior cop have admitted that this made this action even more was also ll advised and against standard op procedures
But you go ahead trolling the net to justify the unwarranted death of a child
