We told you last week that on Friday morning, Power 105, also known as The Breakfast Club here in NYC, played an audio clip from a while ago of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. struggling quite a bit to allegedly read a drop for the station. While co-hosts Angela Yee and DJ Envy seemed reluctant to have the audio played, Charlamagne Tha God went right ahead on and played it. Soon after, Twitter spent the entire day cracking jokes at Mayweather’s expense.

This whole situation was made all the more messy considering that 50 Cent recently ditched the standard ALS ice bucket challenge format in order to challenge Mayweather to read an entire page of Harry Potter. While many got a kick out of the audio, there were also many who thought that releasing the audio was very low and joking about Mayweather’s struggle to read was wrong. Illiteracy is a big issue, and there are way too many adults out here struggling with this issue (and hiding it) to make light of it. With that criticism in mind, Charlamagne responded to those who criticized his choice to release the audio:

“Sometimey self righteous folk are the worst.”

“How you watch a man get be headed this week with no problem but the audio of Mayweather reading makes you uncomfortable?”

“Some of y’all will watch videos of men getting shot down by cops with no problem but then complain the audio of Floyd reading was too much.”

“Desensitized to everything you should be sensitive about and sensitive towards anything celebrity driven.”

“Your hypocrisy is showing.”

And as for Mayweather, in case you missed it, early Saturday the boxer responded to 50 Cent and all the people making light of whether or not he can read with a picture of just two checks from his recent fights and videos of his many cars and wealth:

“Read this $72,276,000.00. God bless.”

On a side note, Mayweather has stated in the past that he dropped out of high school to focus on boxing in order to take care of his mother and family. Just thought that should be put out there.

But what do you think of this whole situation, and more importantly, Mayweather’s response to all of it?
