Musiq Soulchild Is Back! But As The Husel…

Good news: Musiq Soulchild is making new music.

Odd news: Musiq Soulchild isn’t Musiq Soulchild anymore, he’s an alter ego of the Philly native known as The Husel.

So what does that mean? Well, from the sounds of things, you can kiss the neo-soul melodies you’ve come to love from Musiq goodbye and hopefully embrace the new southern hip-hop, modern R&B infused flavor of his first mixtape, “Husel Music,” which will be released this month. As you can imagine, when we heard this news we had quite a few questions about this change and we’re pretty sure you do too. So, check out the interview above with The Husel as he explains his new direction musically, and clears up a few rumors about his personal life with “R&B Divas Atlanta” star Meelah Williams and their child. Are you checking for The Husel?

No one will be talking about this come Wednesday. ||

I loved Misuq. I had been rockin with him since his first album came out. I understand you want to follow the check. You have people to feed. But he said he wasn’t sure why R&B isn’t hot anymore. We know why it isn’t hot anymore. The record execs signing the checks are the reason why R&B is on its way out. That is unless you are Ariana Grande, Justin Timberlake, or Robin Thicke. But do what you have to do to infiltrate the masses and feed your family. I hope it doesn’t compromise your artistic integrity. That is all.

*long sigh* Musiq Soulchild, Donell Jones, Avant, Bobby V, Joe…these African American men are holdin it down for r&b. That’s one of the reasons I respect them is because they were true to their R&b roots. Sounds like Musiq is on the verge of bein a sellout like everyone else. Let’s observe and hope this is the case. I’m disappointed!

He lost me a little bit in that interview, but I don’t care, yes! I will be supporting his next whatever. I love his voice, it’s so distinctive and refreshing, so I will definitely be looking out for that mixtape!

also, where was the part about meelah? I can’t lie, I was interested in hearing what he had to say on that too.

NO! He needs to be musiq soulchild, and stay that way forever. It’s too much ratchet music out here as it is, we don’t need our best soul singers turning ratchet too! But I do understand that there’s not much money in being wholesome these days.
