Today, Jill Scott will star as James Brown’s second wife Deidre “DeeDee” Jenkins in the biopic “Get On Up.” In lieu of the silver screen spotlight, Scott appears on the cover of the September issue of Essence Magazine. On the cover, the Philly native is seen wearing an alluring bodycon dress while wearing a blonde wig styled by Ursula Stephens, Rihanna’s well-known hairstylist. Can we say werk?

The magazine reports Scott has found love again but this time she will keep her romantic life private. She tells Essence:

“My only job is to be happy. So for everybody that cares about me and is not trying to be all up in a celebrity’s business, just know that I’m happy. My son is happy. We enjoy our lives.”

The “He Loves Me” singer also notes she is back in the studio, recording her fifth album. But before you take your calendars out to mark the date, Scott claims it will be a long time before fans hear her new music. She proclaims, ”I’m a wood-burning stove; It’s a slow brew.” In the interview, Scott also covers her 63-pound weight loss journey (#SheDidThat) and exploring how to enjoy fashion with her new body.

I just love her! Go ‘head girl!

Can a woman have personal taste without permission?! JEEZ! Style is personal not to be receive or liked by others. I love Jill’s versatility, sense of style and she’s graceful with a hint of spice! #Oww Do you and let the fabulous Miss Scott do her… #Ijs

  • You Worship Women admit it

Every time I see a beautiful Black Woman with that blonde crap in her hair I want to throw up. Why do Black Women want to look like someone that hates you. If they liked your beauty style then you would see Jennifer Anniston wearing a Afro Wig.

    • Naturalists Kill Me

Here you go. *rolls eyes* Nobody can wear their hair as they please without somebody throwing in that self-hating bs. Just give it a rest. Worry about your own head.

I used to think that way till I saw little black kids in a 3rd world country with naturally blonde hair. Blonde, black, red, or blue it really doesn’t matter as long as you stay true to you and what you believe in is all that matters.

I’m not big on seeing BW with blonde either, honestly. I don’t know why, but I cringe! And the obvious remains — people are free to wear whatever they want.

She looks great. Not crazy about the hair color though, too light for her.

  • Chanda

Good for Jill. Take your time with that album ’cause those are usually the best ones.

Love Jill Scott but Essence went photoshop crazy!!!

Go ‘head Jill with that hour glass figure in that dress. Not sure who her new man is but I was so rooting for her and fine a$$ Lamman Rucker when they were dating. I hope she’s happy and wish her the very best. She’s a great actress and a remarkable songstress. Can’t wait to check out Get On Up tomorrow night. (opening night screenings are a little to hectic for me)

Awwww :-( But we want more music Jill!!!

Oh, well. I guess I’ll just have to deal with listening to her classics, for now.
