Every season, someone on the R&B Divas cast has to be the villain. Last season, it was clearly Kelly Price. And this season it seems like Chante Moore is the one.

There was some shady underhandedness when she asked the rest of the divas to come and duet with her on a new “Ladies Anthem,” knowing by duet she meant sing background. The ladies were none too happy about it and decided to express their frustrations before they started recording but ultimately went through with it. And later when they tried to speak to Chante about why she played them, she seemed to dodge all of their questions.

And then to top it all off, Chante’s manager sent a very unprofessional contract, complete with a missing letterhead and grammatical errors, for the ladies to sign afterward.

TheJasmineBrand participated in a Twitter chat with Chante Moore after the show aired using her #AskChante hashtag and they asked her what went down with the song, why the contract didn’t even have a letterhead and whether or not she’s beefing with Lil Mo.

The Ladies Anthem. What was intention in asking ladies to join the song?

The verses were written already and I wanted them to sing the chorus first, then ad lib. They got offended…They didn’t show it, but the ladies added their own flavor to it and the ladies did what I asked them to do! Too bad nobody will ever hear what they did. It was great!

Did you plan to give them a song credit?

I took them off the song. If they had written the song, yes, they would have a writer’s credit.

Is there anything we didn’t see during the studio session?

A lot! They sang, they created and it was uncomfortable but GREAT I did NOT ask them to leave before they finished.

Is there anything that you should have handled differently?

No.

Did you purposely miss the therapy sessions?

I wasn’t invited to it! I would have been there otherwise, I am not scared of anyone!

Some of the ladies said the contract was unprofessional. Can you clarify?

It was a release NOT a contract, my manager was simply going over what was already discussed with THEIR management. She’s not a lawyer so no need for letterhead! Sheesh!

There seems to be tension between you and Lil Mo. How’s your relationship this season?

Lil Mo makes me laugh. Things were rocky, but I will always have love for her.

How much of the show is real and how much is edited out?

It’s all real but you can’t see the whole week we tape in 1 hour, so a lot is left out.

I heard the finished product and its certainly not a song I’d ruin friendships over. When will Chante embrace the fact that she’s a jazz artist and stop trying to become a pop diva?
Her first albums are classics because she embraced her jazz image.

I believe Chante. Yes she could have communicated better but the ladies also had a choice not to do it if they truly were offended. Making Chante a villain over this is stupid. Grown women should be able to work things out then keep it moving. But of course this is a reality TV show.

I agree. Leela was the only one who was like, “the situation is different from what I thought, but let’s just sing and move on.” I feel like sometimes the divas place too much emphasis on petty drama, rather than what they’re on our tv to do, which is to Sing!!!!

I like Change Moore. She may have handled the situation unprofessional but I don’t think what she did should make her out to be a villain. Besides what ever the situation had been, big or small Lil’Mo is there to manipulate the situation and make it into something bigger for the viewing audience? That’s what clowns do.
