Mom To Send Adopted Daughter To College 18 Years After Finding Her On A Doorstep
18 years ago, Janessa Gibbs was abandoned on the doorstep of a doctor’s office. She was later adopted by a nurse by the name of Sara Gibbs, who was working at the clinic next door.
“I was abandoned on a doctor’s doorstep,” Janeesa told WMC Action News 5
Sara says that she was there when first responders arrived on the scene. After seeking help from her pastor and coworkers, Sara found the courage to adopt the abandoned infant.
“I was there working the night shift. I work 12-hour nights. There was nothing in my life that prepared me for a baby,” Sara expressed.
Though the identity of Janessa’s mother remains a mystery, Janessa and Sara haven’t forgotten about her.
“I have never let a birthday of hers pass that I didn’t think of her mother,” said an emotional Sara. “I feel like it was divine intervention. It had to be. I wasn’t even supposed to be there [that day].”
“She always tells me that whoever my mother is, did it for her,” adds Janessa. “She’s the best mom […] She has always been my mom. I’m her only child so I have to watch out for her.”
This fall, Sara will be sending Janessa off to college.
“I wanted to be the one to teach her and mold her,” said Sara. “She truly is a mama’s girl.”
Such a sweet story!
