Can I Get A Slice? LeBron James To Open Pizza Restaurants In Florida
LeBron James certainly has some extra cash to throw around these days. He earned a cool $30 million for his one percent stock in Beats Electronics, which was recently sold to Apple. That’s on top of his contract with the Heat and his other sponsorship deals. So why not use some of that windfall to start a business? The NBA icon is doing just that.
James and a team of investors have plans to open 10 Blaze Pizza restaurants in South Florida. The first two will open in Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton in the fall, according to the Sun Sentinel.
Blaze, which is based in California, lets costumers create their own pizzas or choose from their signature personal-sized pies, for about $8, reports The Grio.
Pizza is usually a win-win business venture. According to data from Franchise Disclosure Documents, on average Americans consume 100 acres of pizza daily or 350 slices per second. Each month 93 percent of Americans eat at least one pizza, making pizza the number one dinner choice in the United States. With this comes great revenue; pizza is a $40 billion industry (measured by sales per year) makes up approximately 17 percent of all restaurants in the nation, reports Franchise Help.
Due to back-to-back championships and four MVP awards, James is considered the king of the NBA. He is the NBA’s biggest endorsement star with deals with Nike, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Upper Deck and others. “Sales of his signature Nike shoes were tops among active players at $300 million in the U.S. during 2013, according to research firm SportsOneSource, and his jersey was the NBA’s best-seller,” reports Forbes.
