Man Showed Up At GMA Set With Knife And Plans To ‘Kill Michael Strahan’
A homeless man showed up at ABC’s “Good Morning America” Times Square studio and demanded to be allowed onto the set yesterday morning, FOX reports. The 25-year-old, who has since been identified as Andre Johnson, was denied access by security guards. He later returned with a knife and attempted to stab a security guard.
“The suspect went to the entrance of ABC studios and demanded that security let him into the studio. He was denied entrance, at which time he showed a knife. He [then] attempted to stab a security guard,” said a police source.
A nearby police officer took notice of the altercation and arrested the suspect. Following the incident, the disturbed man was transported to the Midtown South police station, where he revealed to investigators why he was requesting to be allowed on to the set.
“I was there to kill Michael Strahan,” a law enforcement source claims Andre told investigators.
Thankfully, Michael never came in contact with Andre. The man has since been charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.
“We’re incredibly thankful for the quick actions of a heroic NYPD officer who acted quickly and got the situation under control,” ABC said in a statement.
It’s currently unclear why he was targeting the former New York Giants star, but we imagine that it must be pretty tough to be a celebrity with things like this going on. Just last month we told you all about Sanaa Lathan’s stalker, who was discovered sleeping in her laundry room.
