Thanks, But No Thanks: Celebs Who Passed on Reality TV Shows
Chris Brown just turned down BET’s offer for a reality show. And he’s not the only one who’s passed on a chance for TV time. Find out which one of your favorite celebrities will never do reality TV, and why.
Chrissy Tiegen and John Legend
The Networks have been begging this adorable twosome to do a reality show for years. But Chrissy told Cosmo that she was afraid they were too normal and boring to pull any ratings:
“I never wanted to go down that route. People think we’re friends with really famous people. We’re not, really. Most of our friends are bankers.”
We think these two could be underestimating their star power.
Kanye said that the reason you’ll never see him on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” is because he doesn’t have enough creative control:
“I don’t really do her show just because I don’t particularly like the way the producers shoot some of the shots. I’m very meticulous to that, right? I like to get a different director of photography or whatever.”
We’d be willing to give him a shot at camera work for a few behind the scenes moments with those two.
NeNe Leakes is already no stranger to reality TV. But when the rest of the Real Housewives of Atlanta decided to do spinoffs too, she shaded the whole industry and Tweeted:
“Just saw a list of all the new reality shows that r coming soon! Everybody is a reality star now! WOW! I gotta go”
Does this mean the end of reality for the queen of the housewives?
Tyrese has never been shy about sharing his opinions. Last month he called reality TV shows “the devil’s work” because they popularize drama and divorce and ruin lives. We guess we won’t see “Tyrese Fix My Life” on our TV lineups any time soon.
Bishop TD Jakes
A reality show featuring preaching powerhouse Bishop TD Jakes would pull in serious viewers. But the Bishop says that he thinks that churches should focus on the ministry and not the men behind it. We’d love to assume that we can wait for a show about his missionary work, but we doubt it.
Michelle says she considered doing a reality TV show with her family but in the end decided it was too much to put them through:
“I didn’t want to put my family in the hot seat because they’re not performers. I didn’t want them to deal with what I deal with.
“I just want it to be right with me and my sisters. I don’t want it to – of course we have to show conflict for ratings and drama but I don’t want it to turn into a train-wreck.”
Family first? That’s a motto we can get behind.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey star has already done the reality circuit. But she says you can trust that she’ll never do it again. She says that reality is fun, but she’s worried that the stress could break up her family like it did her marriage. She told Us Magazine, “Other than my daughter —- we share a bond that nothing can break —- I will never do a reality show with family ever again. It’s just not a healthy environment.”
Now that the Tonight Show is over, the networks have been all over Mr. Leno to do a reality show featuring the late night funny man himself.
But Jay says he’s not on board for anything that doesn’t have a TV team behind it:
“Reality shows aren’t shows. There’s nobody writing it. There’s just a camera following people around — that’s not a TV show.”
Billy Ray Cyrus
Billy Ray Cyrus has been offered millions to do reality shows on almost every network. But he says Miley won’t let him. According to a Cyrus family insider, Miley doesn’t want her dad to embarrass her once the cameras start rolling.
We don’t know why Blac Chyna won’t do a reality show. But we do know that her mom is mad that she won’t get on board with the show she’s been trying to shop around Hollywood. But what we want to know is if she turned up would you tune in?
BET recently approached Chris Brown for a Lohan-style reality show. We don’t know exactly why Chris said “no”, but we have a feeling he doesn’t want the world to see his legal troubles unfold on the small screen — no matter how much the world would love to watch.
You won’t see Chris Browns sometimes-girlfriend on a reality show either. When rumors were circulating about Karreuche being a star on the new “Love & Hip Hop LA,” she Tweeted “Definitely not going to be on ‘Love & Hip Hop LA’, lol.” We’re going to go ahead and take that as a hard “no”.
