It was short but it wasn’t sweet. Jenny McCarthy may be on her way out at The View.
According to reports, her contract is up for renewal in July but it appears ABC will not resign the Playboy Playmate-turned-comedian.
She hasn’t lured in more viewers as it was hoped. In fact, the viewership for the long-running show has been relatively flat. “´The View´is flat year-to-year with a 1.2 rating average,” reports The Wrap. There was actually a slight dip since her debut; as of April 2014, ratings were down by about five percent compared with last season. The show is still however No. 1 for its time slot, followed by CBS’s rival program The Talk, which has climbed 19 percent from its past season.
“Jenny just didn’t appeal to the daytime audience market. They couldn’t relate to her,” a source revealed to FOX411. “There are a lot of changes taking place now that Barbara [Walters] has left.”
McCarthy didn’t get off to a great start on the program. There was controversy when she was named to replace Elisabeth Hasselbeck last July because of her personal views. “Media and medical experts expressed concern that McCarthy – a vocal opponent of vaccinations – would influence parents’ immunization decisions,” reports Fox News.
The word has been circulating since October that McCarthy may be axed. But at the time ABC denied the rumors. Now it seems the rumors may be true.
“Now that Barbara has retired, ABC has more autonomy to hire who they want for the show,” added our source. “But no matter what, Barbara will not let this show fail. She wants talent that will appeal to the daytime viewers.”
