“You Embarrassed Me” Robin Thicke Releases “Get Her Back” Video
If you thought Robin Thicke’s “Get Her Back” song was too much of an overshare, the music video for the song is going to make you want to cringe and two step at the same time. I’ll be the first to admit when I heard the name of his new single, I wasn’t about it. It seemed that Thicke was commercializing this very public and somewhat messy breakup with his wife Paula Patton– if it’s real to begin with.
But when I heard him perform the song at the Billboard Music Awards, I was hooked. The song goes. It’s smooth and sultry and you know Thicke’s vocals are always on point. And despite the extremely personal nature of the lyrics, I was grooving.
And today, the video for the single was released. And while the song itself sounds like something you’d listen to sunbathing on somebody’s beach, the video is dark, raw and a bit sad. Throughout the video, text messages appear on the screen with messages like “I hate myself,” “I wrote a whole album for you,” (Surely referencing the fact that Robin’s next project is called Paula.) “I kept trying to warn you, you were pushing me too far,” “You embarrassed me,” and “I can’t make love to you anymore.”
Whether those are actual text messages they exchanged or not, it’s heavy. But the song is still smoove.
Take a look at the video and let us know what you think.
