Heroic Man Stops Baby From Crawling Across Georgia Highway

Bryant Collins was on his way to go fix a stranded car when he noticed something unusual on the shoulder of a Georgia Highway.

Collins told 11Alive, “I had seen something out of the corner of my eye and I thought it was a baby. I just stopped and there was a baby…almost in the highway.”

Collins stopped immediately, swopped up the little girl and called 911 to report his discovery.  Collins who spent 10 years in prison for cocaine manufacturing said, “I’ve been in a lot of bad situations but I’ve never seen that.”

While he was in prison Collins decided to turn his life around, stating that he wasn’t going to leave prison the same way he entered it.

Today, Collins is a repairman. And after rescuing the child, he waited two hours for emergency personnel to get to him on Highway 72. In the meantime, he soothed the crying 15 month old with gospel music. “I turned my phone on and let her listen to some music and she calmed right down.”

The Sheriff who investigated the case says the little girl crawled 300 yards- almost a quarter of a mile- through the woods and onto the shoulder of the highway. The Sheriff said, “Honestly, that’s almost a miracle that a 15 month old can go that far from her house, into the woods, fall down an embankment, wind up near a major highway and really not get hurt that bad.”

Amazing, indeed but also troubling that her parents allowed her to get this far.

The little girl’s father Timothy Pickens, has been arrested and her mother may face charges as well.

Collins is just happy he was at the right place at the right time. He told 11 Alive that he’s been out of prison and drug free for the past five years and said, “It made me feel good that I could be in society and do good. Just as well as you can do bad, you can do good, you know?”

True story.

I’m glad the baby’s OK. And God will definitely bless Mr. Collins for saving her life. What bothers me is, Why didn’t the baby’s parents make sure she didn’t wander off like that??? You can’t just let a child run around unsupervised. It’s only by God’s grace and mercy she didn’t get run over. Those “parents” NEED to be arrested and face child-neglect charges.

I would have to chew on her legs her once I picked her up off the side of the road cuz she’s absolutely adorbs. lol…love a chubby baby.
Uhm…THANK GOD for you sir. You were definitely lead to the baby by forces beyond us because this is crazy!

That baby is so cute!!!& thank God this man was there. I hope whoever takes care of this little girl tell her about her angel. That pic of them is so sweet!

Please don’t give her back to her neglectful parents smh

    Thank goodness for this man.

I saw this on the news this morning and thought it was a
great story, but I didn’t see the need to include the fact that this man was
    once in prison.
If I saved a child from getting run over in the street,
would it be relevant that I once got a ticket for running a red light?

He actually was the first to mention he did Federal time for drug manufacturing. Regardless, this was an act of GOD, because that baby would have been ran over like road kill.

I think it was kind of good that his past was mentioned b/c there is a stigma, once you do bad you’ll always do bad. Teaches you not to judge someone b/c of their past. This man did a bad crime & he turned his life around for the better. There are many more like him out there that don’t get a chance.

I guess it turned me off because the headline I saw was “EX-CON saves baby” or something to that affect. As far as I’m concerned he is a good citizen who did a very good thing. I still hate that his past was part of the story.

        • Trisha_B

I guess they changed the headline…but I get what your saying!

  • KeepingItReal

He looks like Michael Jordan. But…glad he saved the baby. Now…instead of clamoring for CPS to investigate Willow and Jaden Smith…CPS should have been investigating the family of this baby. Surely, that baby will be removed from the home.

    God Bless him.
