We told you yesterday about Pastor Jamal Bryant of the Empowerment Temple in Baltimore receiving the side-eye from quite a few people because he said “These Hoes Ain’t Loyal” during a recent sermon. This didn’t sit well with people, who felt that to stand behind the pulpit and use such language when you’re supposed to be preaching the word of God is unacceptable. But Pastor Bryant took to Twitter yesterday to let people know that the quote was taken out of context, and that if you didn’t bother to listen to the message in full, you shouldn’t be taking offense to what was said.

“Don’t critique a quote when you never heard message! 20 seconds of a 30 minute message is incomplete assessment”

“Self righteous saints I wanna remind you Gomer wasn’t a masseuse & Mary Magdalen wasn’t a physical therapist”

“Dear Family fell into a sensationalized quote & regrettably lent no context. Be mad whole not in part”

Below is the context in which the quote was used in the “I’m My Enemies Worst Nightmare” sermon, where he speaks on the importance of finding a woman of God and listening to her when referencing the fall of Pontius Pilate and his wife, who tried to encourage Pilate to save Jesus:

Any man who does not have a wife is running on grace, because you don’t get favor until the wife comes. Brothers, I’m getting ready to hook you up. An anointed woman of God is not dreaming about a man. An anointed woman of God is dreaming for her man. So when she really connects to who you are, she begins to dream about what she sees you accomplishing, what she sees you becoming and you with your silly stuff, go run off with a side-chick who don’t have no anointing.

The problem with Pilate, is the problem with a lot of men, is he didn’t know what he had. Had Pilate had listened to the woman he had, his life would’ve been better. Because he didn’t listen to the woman of God, he ended up losing his job, ended up in exile, ended up being kicked out of the palace and ended up committing suicide. If you got enough confidence to not be insecure and threatened about the woman God sent you, when she speaks, she is speaking from the voice of God for what she sees over your life!

Every sister just elbowed another sister, “he should’ve listened!” Every brother, would you tap another brother and say, “I should’ve listened to her.” God help me! Old saints, y’all forgive me but I gotta tell ya, these hoes ain’t loyal! You gotta find somebody!

Pilate lives in conflict because he washes his hands and then signs the death certificate. He could’ve put a curve on the whole movement of women’s suffrage. Women could’ve got the right to vote earlier. They could’ve had the right to own property sooner if he in that right moment would’ve listened to what the woman of God spoke over his life, trying to help him. It was no benefit for her. She just wanted to see him in his rightful place with God!

You done found the right one when they are not into your car, your clothes or your income, but they got a desire to see you in the will of God. That’s how you know you’ve found somebody who’s anointed! You will regret not listening to the woman God sent you. You will regret not taking heed to the word God sent you!

Pastor Bryant can relate to what he’s preaching, as his own marriage fell apart because of infidelity and NOT listening to the woman he thought God sent him. But even with all that, the use of that Chris Brown song lyric still doesn’t seem all that necessary. Clearly he just got a little too comfortable. Pastor Bryant is scheduled to sit down with Roland Martin on his show today to talk about this controversy of his, and he started the day off with a prayer on Twitter. He his praying that what he has to say will help those who need to, to get right with God.

“Dear Lord today, in the midst of confusion start conversations that will lead to conversions leaving the enemy in frustration.”

Again, here’s the full sermon below. Watch it, and share your thoughts on his response to all the criticism below.
