Berry Says She Hasn’t Abandoned Black People.

February 22nd, 2011 - By Veronica Wells

Halle Berry has been all up in the news as of late, with custody battles, a new boyfriend and her recent Ebony interview, Berry is getting plenty of publicity.

In the March 2011 issue of Ebony, Berry told the magazine she had not abandoned black people and that she was still very connected to her community. She said the race of her daughter’s father and the race of her latest boyfriend doesn’t detract from either her or her daughter’s racial identity. Berry told Ebony, in a quote that’s since raised some eyebrows, that her daughter will eventually have to choose her identity for herself but she feels she’s black.

“I feel she’s black. I’m black and I’m her mother, and I believe in the one-drop theory.”

A writer over a Black Voices, wonders why Berry has to rationalize her decision to date outside of her race, when other prominent black actors and artists have never felt the need to do so. She concluded that Berry’s assertion of not having abandoned her community was a ploy to get the black community to support her latest film. You can read the entire article here.

How do you feel about the one- drop theory and do you think Berry is just trying to get black folk to see her movie?

    THANK YOU SO MUCH COCO!

What is wrong with you MADAM NOIR–is this a Black Women Empowerment site or a Celeb gossip. To even call in to question Halle Berry's 'blackness' is just LOW. The woman has been a shining example and the 1st oscar winner. She has been proud to be a black woman ALL HER LIFE, and now all this stupidity because her gold-digging baby-daddy is giving her problem.

How are we really to move forward when some crab of person keeps trying to drag you back down all the time.

In this day and age, you are who you are without the race card indicator. Just be glad you’re alive and well. I’m from a multi culture background and I don’t have to comes to terms of anything. The race card is overrated.

She can say whatever she wants. If she believes in the one drop rule who are we to judge. I need everyone to get a life and stop dissecting everything a celebrity says that's not politically correct. She popped that baby out and until Nalah is old enough to decide she is a black women.

why does Berry have to validate her dating choices when the male sports & entertainment community doesn't seem to need to?

I believe Halle is trying to get the black race on her side when she claims to believe in the one drop theory. There was also the theory that blacks were almost human. Does she believe that also? Her daughter is more white than black.

Halle is in bad shape. I wish the sister well, but maybe it's time for her to do some soul-searching. After so many men, you have to wonder if it's them or does she have some issues to iron out.
