I haven’t been watching very much of Basketball Wives LA these days, or the entire Basketball Wives franchise at that. But from what I’ve been able to catch of reruns here in the office, things were messy, as usual. The season finale came and went last night, but during the finale, some very disrespectful remarks were made by cast member Sundy Carter to co-star Brandi Maxiell. We have spoken about Maxiell on the site before. She is an ovarian cancer survivor who was diagnosed at the age of 24, and speaks on her battle to encourage other women.

“It was tough. I didn’t know what was going on; it came as a shock to me and my family. After the treatment, I was healed and it was definitely a life changing experience.

The cancer came at such an exciting time of my life. I just graduated college, my husband was in the NBA and life was great. Back then, I was like, “This is turn up time!” (Laughs) and then God said, ‘Hold on baby, I got other plans for you.’ I lost my hair, I gained weight from all the different medications I was taking and that really took a toll on my self-esteem.”

But the cancer has also had an impact on her ability to have children. She was able to give birth to her first child with husband Jason Maxiell via IVF back in 2011, but she is trying and struggling for baby number two.

During last night’s episode, Carter (who has bumped heads with Maxiell in the past, and has three kids–one allegedly by retired baller and MARRIED man Larry Hughes) got into it with Maxiell and co-star Malaysia Pargo. While having it out with Maxiell specifically, Carter told her to go and try to make a baby. Maxiell didn’t hear that comment until later, when co-star Brittish Williams came in to tell her what was said. Maxiell tries to run downstairs to confront Carter, but is kept at bay by Prago. She tells Prago, “It’s b*tches like that who are able to have children.”

Now that the episode has aired, executive producer Shaunie O’Neal is speaking out on Twitter to share her disappointment in Carter, and to apologize to people who are dealing with and have survived cancer:

“For the record, as the executive producer of Basketball Wives, I do not condone the extremely mean behavior that took place on tonights episode . The complete disregard and disrespect shown toward people suffering from cancer has made me sick to my stomach and I am extremely upset and disappointed at what I have seen. The five minutes of fame isn’t worth it. My heart goes out to @brandimaxwell and the countless cancer patients and survivors who witnessed this reckless behavior.”

Maxiell has also spoken out since this scene happened, telling Radar Online that Carter is “disgusting.”

“It hurts. I’m trying to be strong, but she is so disrespectful. She knows I’m struggling and would give anything to have more children. It’s unfortunate she stooped that that level.

Sundy’s comments are disrespectful on so many levels. I don’t know how she can even be a woman and say something like that. This is ignorant because there are so many women who are going through the same struggles as myself.

I’ve never met a woman who is so heartless. She is nasty and disgusting to me.”

Carter responded to the backlash on Twitter, saying “Thank u everyone 4 being GOD this evening! Be careful what u wish on others as well judgemental holy folks!”

You can check out the argument below (and the comment which can be heard at the 29:00 mark). Share your thoughts on Carter’s statements, and both O’Neal and Maxiell’s responses.
