As I said before, spring is a big time time for folks, famous and not-famous, to try something new with their hair, and quite a few women are already switching it up and showing off their fresh new looks.

Laura Govan, formerly of Basketball Wives LA, showed off a chic short cut on Instagram recently after wearing the same long locks for quite some time. The back of the cut is short, but the sides are medium length, framing her face. She debuted the cut with the following photo, saying, “And then This happened …. @hairs_mr_rahmlee”

Don’t ask me why she had to be naked in order to show off this haircut, but yeah…She has since jazzed it up, flipping the long pieces all to one side, and she looks great!

Also showing off some healthy and luscious hair is Demetria Lucas. The Blood Sweat and Heels star and writer sometimes wear a weave, and she did for most of her time on the Bravo reality series.

But Lucas showed off her natural hair on Instagram recently, setting her hair free for spring. She captioned the following photo with:

“Me. #noweave #nomakeup #getfree #ordietrying”

As you can see, her hair is quite full and fabulous. She told a follower that she went natural for a second time in 2011 and has been growing her locks out ever since. I’m digging the results (and missing my ‘fro at the same time)!

What big changes have you made to your hair for spring? And what do you think of these lovely ladies and their locks?

Demetria has always had beautiful hair but I don’t think most of the time it was fake hair. I don’t watch that show that much but when I see her, she is wearing her own hair

love me some Demetria!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why we still talking bout laura?!?!?!?

  • mmmdot

Laura is beyond acting like an attention whxre for being topless, covering her bxxbs, and acting like she’s JUST showing off her new haircut but I DO love that freaking haircut. Hot. As for Demetria, I really thought that was her hair! I need to know her hairstylist immediately. That was some TOTALLY natural looking hair. And of course her natural fro is gorgeous as well.

There are natural hair weaves now. So it matches your natural texture and you can get the volume if your twa is just too teenie! . Chile…4c hair I can’t! lol

      • mmmdot

LMAO! Yay for some NATURAL weaves! I would definitely love to try one out and have something in my hair that actually looks like it could be growing out of my scalp. I have some research to do.

  • DeepThinker

Wow! I would have never guessed Demetria was wearing weave. Laura’s haircut is really cute. I hope she leaves the length on the sides to balance with her face.

  • Rashida

Laura is trying way too hard…

    • Yvette

      Yes she is.

demetria can change her hair all she wants, but what she needs to change is the inside because it’s filthy and devilish

Great hair pics by the way…Ugh why do black women care so much about each other’s hair tho?! The fuq? Natural is gorgeous, weave is gorgeous, fades and dreads are gorgeous. we get it, some women are tired of hearing people say all black women are bald headed underneath their weaves, but come on w everyone posting their natural hair pics. you have hair under the weave, good for you…

Because it seems like society is starting to “turn the corner”,on their feelings towards weaves , to a negative opinion. So celebs and famous women want to set the record straight, that they do have and can maintain natural hair and ditch the weaves and wigs. Look at your tv commercials and national advertisements with black women in them., and see how ad agencies only use women with natural hair . Even more-so when used in a family ad.

    • staygolden

All women care about hair. It’s not unique to black women.

      • mmmdot

        THANK YOU!

      • Shay

We can say that but lets be real…Other nationalities do go to the salon but they in no way spend the amount of time, energy and money into their hair as black women do…Nobody said it was anything wrong with that either…Look at the amount of money we spend on products alone..

        • staygolden

Well if you want to break it down, black women spend the most money than any segment on beauty products. Because most of the stuff we buy doesn’t work for our skin and hair. I can look at my own list of things I’ve bought, I’ve not found a single hair product that I live for in my whole life. That doesn’t mean I’m vain or doing too much, we just have a greater range of variety in our DNA so not everything that works for me will work for the next black woman.
But don’t try and act like ONLY black women are interested in hair and makeup. That’s just ridiculous.

I think people read to deep into it. For her It’s an accomplishment. A dramatic change. It’s HARD to make the decision to go natural and even harder to maintain so you feel a bit of accomplishment and pride. When I went natural I did a selfie. I also did one when I got my first relaxer after ten years and another after I went back natural. It’s more about showcasing the dramatic change that you’ve undergone But I do agree that black people put too much emphasis on hair. We put emphasis on anything that has widely been criticized on us ie hair, weight, complexion, financial status etc.

I see hair styles as a form of art. People like to see art and can appreciate it when its done right.

  • Cleveland Cutie

Yeah why did Laura Govan need a naked pic to show her new cut? #thethirstisreal
