Atlanta’s beloved mayor Kasim Reed recently announced that he’s engaged to be married to former beauty queen Sarah-Elizabeth Langford, AJC reports.

“I could not feel more blessed that she agreed to marry me, and we look forward to building a family together in the greatest city in America,” said Reed in a statement released this morning.

“I am honored to have our friends and family share this special moment with us and I ask that our privacy is respected as we celebrate this personal occasion,” his statement continued.

It turns out that the two are also expecting their first child together. While the news was a shock to some, others have been speculating for months that Reed and Langford were planning a wedding. Langford appears to be an ideal candidate for the position of First Lady of Atlanta, as she’s no stranger to the world of politics. She is the daughter of former Atlanta City Attorney Susan Pease Langford and late State Senator Arthur Langford.  It’s currently unclear specifically when Reed and his bride-to-be plan on tying the knot. However, we’ll be sure to keep you posted as further details emerge.

How interesting that this announcement appears in mainstream media shortly after blogger Mr. Obnoxious reports that Langford and another woman are both pregnant by Reed.

I’m glad he is doing the RIGHT thing and marrying her. We don’t need any more black males and black females playing house. #BlackMarriage #NoMoreBabyMamas #NoMoreBabyDaddys #DoBetter #GetYourLife

This would be more realistic and interesting if he DIDNT marry her just bc shes pregnant. Its 2014. Politicians dont need to fit a certain mold. I’m sure Atlanta would accept Reed just the same if he has a baby out of wedlock as long as he is a good father.

I hate to say it, but I highly doubt that. When you are in a position power, you have to act accordingly, and being a baby daddy/baby mama is NOT a source of power. I, for one, would look at him differently if he was a baby daddy.

I’m glad he’s marrying her. Politicians should fit a certain mold to uphold the dignity of their offices. More importantly, I hope he’s marrying her because he had planned to anyway.

something tells me he’s got his sights set on an office higher than mayor of Atlanta. Hence the marriage proposal.
