3. Access to better health insurance.
This may not be as much of an issue thanks to Obamacare, but this was something I seriously took into consideration when I considered marriage. My fiancé’s employer offers much better health coverage than I’m currently offered, but he cannot add me until he presents a marriage certificate. Some policies will allow you to add domestic partners on coverage, but it may require paying extra taxes. Also most policies won’t cover the biological or non-biological children of their domestic partners. Something to consider if your healthcare options are limited. Same goes for some joint home and auto insurance.
