1. Everything gets split 50/50.
The good news? Unmarried couples are not responsible for one another’s debt if the relationship comes to an end. The bad news? You aren’t entitled to anything that was earned during the marriage either. Most states view any property obtained during the marriage equally owned by both parties. Meaning that in a divorce, without a pre-nuptial agreement, everything gets split 50/50 and spouses may be entitled to alimony.
